Had issues with my computer
but now back on track

I will see if i can re-post the older pics

as for updates i did get a little opportunity to start work on the moon disc

3 tabs equal distance appart (about 13 tabs between each)
40933617503_b039bdd562_o.jpg

Trimming the back so i can mount it to the wheels

47900049091_abd32c7d71_o.jpg

saving these 3 full size so I can use the whole as my area to drill so I can bolt both discs to each other

the rest will be cut down

What I thought was going to be a rather straight forward build
hit some major roadblocks
I have spent a good amount of time seeing if i can still make it work
good thing i Have a month to go still

I got all the holes drilled into the discs
48051028493_77a2391fa1_o.jpg

I used the back tabs as a guide marker to plot out the 3 holes to bolt on the discs to the wheels
48051028578_b833c90d60_o.jpg

But this is where all the issues started
48051028758_53d30e46ec_o.jpg

the disc is bowed much more than I expected
nearly 5" in the center when both sics are put on
I think I can still make it work
but I need a new idea for a front fork/springer
a wider coaster brake center for the rim
and a new way to better attach such wide discs

If I cant then I may need to look for a back up bike to build

Hope you figure it out. Those look cool.

Since most regular forks will not work i am forced to either fabricate a wide fork
or buy a fork of a fat tire bicycle

Right now I have a design to turn a 24" knee action springer into a girder springer
Along with the spring from the rear suspension of a proflex mtn bike
48431299651_448bd7b198_o.jpg

Got the bracket all done to bolt on the discs to the wheel
here is what I ended up with
48441800807_4d7a396c49_b.jpg

And this is it attached to the wheel
48441625436_8f72cf3469_o.jpg

the bolts I used are a little bigger than I would have liked but they will work for now
until I can make new backrests with smaller bolt threading
48426627387_1c611dba02_o.jpg

Now you can see better how big of an issue I have ahead
the rear on the huffy is probably one of the widest at 4"
48431299421_d96a6cac54_b.jpg

yet the with booth discs attached they are almost an extra inch too wide

This week is shaping up to be quite productive

1st the small stuff
I was able to grind off a small lip inside the 3 piece crank
48536947557_621132daca_o.jpg

I had to do this so I could swap mount the crank arms in reverse
when in gravity race mode

Normal pedal mode
48536801361_a1557188eb_o.jpg

and reversed so I can use the pedal as a leg rest during a gravity race
just need a way to attach it to the frame

I also found a main bracket piece (at home depot) that I can use to start building a girder fork
its a CBS Galvanized Standoff Column Base for 4x4

@Dr. Tankenstein and I have been joking around about how great a bike shop Home Depot is. (Especially during build offs). :D

I like the exercise pedals. I got some of those but haven't found the right bike for them yet. These are perfect for your leg rest mode!

The Renaissance Man

Yes getting those as a prize from KF for getting 2nd place came in handy
they are really heavy
so this is the only build they work on
but I did have to buy an adapter to fit the larder bmx crank thread

kingfish254

Yes but I actually tend to find better stuff at ACE hardware
although OSH used to be my go to for offbeat hard to find stuff
cant believe they went out of business
TWICE

Just about finished with turning a standard knee action springer
48602842701_4366e91851_k.jpg

Into a custom built girder fork
I originally planned to use a spring from a proflex bike
but decided to see if I could build the girder using almost all the knee action parts

Still not quite finished but you can tell the direction the final product will be in this pic

Here you can see the cuts I had to make in the Galvanized Standoff Column to clear the tank during turning
the pivot arms I am hoping to use these u bolt plates from ace hardware (home depot versions where too thin)
the main pivots are made using a 3" x 3/8 plate If not then the mending plate will be used
the attachment between the lower pivot and the fork is a 2 1/2 plate
the little plate will be bent into an L shape and bolted with a 3/8 coupling nut to the top

and here is how a pic of the rearranged spring mechanism

I am going tonight to pick up a complete 2000's Manta Ray

Not because I am switching builds but because I am going to pilfer a lot of parts from this bike

I am definitely going to use the 170mm wide coaster hub for sure

There is a possibility I may use the front fork and do away with the custom girder fork
after seeing DRAGSTER RAT FREAK by Reallybigtim in the class 2 builds
I think a variation on his front fork and hbars will work better for my purposes

Also have my seat and tires on their way

Its a good thing this is labor day weekend coming up
I have a lot of labor that I will be putting into this bike to finish it before the deadline
