Rat Rod
Owner & Founder
Purchased a November 1966 Schwinn Fastback from the original owner on Thursday. This bike has a crazy back story. The seller said that his Dad was the Chief of Police in Shreveport, LA back in the 60s and his Uncle was behind a lot of the corruption in town. As a front, his Uncle opened a bike shop to hide all of his unscrupulous activities. Even though the bike shop was a front, he still sold bikes and this resulted in the seller and his siblings always ending up with the top of the line Schwinns. That’s definitely the wildest story I’ve had with a bike purchase to date!
Bike should clean up pretty well. Fortunately the reflector tape is only on the chrome. The tires don't have any cracks and the seat is split-free. The only issues is the oxidizing/staining of the vinyl on the seat, a missing rear reflector and the brake cables are fried.
The 66 model was the first year of the Fastback and this one should have had a non-slick on the back, but it looks like they put a Uniroyal rear slick on it way back when.
Texas Magic Water coming up!
