Improving shifting on a well beat Mongoose Stat

a trek 3700 has a good stock drivetrain and CL is littered with them or any trek model in general , for a donor bike if you don't have one

I'd definitely go with triggers and some Kore 2 MTB grips or classic Oury's , twisties shorten your grips and are prone to problems

Googled the bike , looks like a good get around town bike and some lite trail action , like the added support on the seat post

Clean and lube the derailleurs front and rear while you have it apart, and KMC makes a good chain and very affordable all bike shops carry them or Sun-Lite brand

Or find a donor bike with some used good condition rims with a cassete instead of a freewheel ? Which ever will work and provide you with many enjoyable bike rides as my bike is a freewheel and works just fine

Chains tend to stretch and freewheel cogs wear quickly if you ride the same cog often , get a new freewheel and chain and adjust the rear derailleur with the barrel adjuster you should be fine a quick inexpensive fix or find a donor bike laying around , I bought a bike last year from a yard sale...

    Would these be consider Strandies?

So I seen a forgotten beach cruiser today , red vintage murray Monterey was on the side of the road had been there a while and flat tires and rusted chain and dry cracked seat , and I rode home to return to pick it up and it was gone , would of been a good build bike to make into a bmx cruiser...
