That's a good idea. A shop may have all the tools and equipment needed to straighten it. I would have 2 x 4's, baling wire and a dozen clamps set up to try to fix it. With a big hammer. Take the rear wheel with it so they can check the alignment. I'm looking forward to seeing it built up.

If you're needing to widen the frame dropouts, then your frame must have come new as a single or 3 speed, not a 5 or ten speed. If you have a hub like a nexus 3 speed it can be a lot wider. I've been conceptualizing (daydreaming) about a front wheel drive short wheelbase bike. 20" or 26" has yet to be decided. Then some kind of frame, a lot needs to be worked out. I'd also like to encase it in sheet metal with a lot of rivets like a WW2 fighter plane.

It had plenty of lube, so I put the bearings back in and adjusted the cones. You are right, it's the normal operation of the hub and it's good.

Looks even better than before. Folders are 20", so a long handlebar and seat stem would make it a commuter. A lot better than this old BSA.
