I got lucky that the BO15 treads weren't started until later, and I just happen to look at the site at the moment they were created. I don't even think the rules had been posted yet!

Probably the only thing I'll be First in this year, but I'm glad to be participating. On a leave-'o-absence for the month of May and going to try to finish up, or mostly, during this time of social isolation.

I've had this Rock Hopper for over 10 years. Picked it up locally for $75 back then. It used to be my daily commuter. Got sidelined when I had the back troubles and surgery. Rode recumbent for a time. After completing the P-40 build last year, riding that more, I realize my back is healthy enough for upright riding again, so I want this old favorite to be something Special again. Much was worn or tired.

Will get cleaned and greased where appropriate.
New cables and housings
New front cogs, new rear freewheel cassette
New headset. Handle bar to be determined - riser/BMX
New saddle. TBD
Paint... clean and wax ('cause my wife loves the color, and it is in good condition,) or a new look.
Other stuff as deemed necessary - (do-dads, coolios, etc)

Today's work: disassembly and clean/re-grease of the rear wheel. The Weinmanns on it are in great shape and true. Just needed a little refresh.

My parts box arrived Saturday instead of the predicted Monday (hooray!) so I attached the 8-spd 11-32t freewheel.

And assembled the Surly Stainless Steel rings. 46/36t, like the old rings. Left off the 26t. At this point if I encounter a hill that needs that small of ring, I’ll be walking. :).

Edit: took me 3 minutes to find the picture of Surly so I could save 10 seconds typing. Then spent a minute telling you about it

They’re 110mm BCD, which I think is pretty common still. I was able to find plenty of options. (unless that was sarcasm I didn’t pick up on)

Lots of options with the “new standards” too. Don’t know why they gotta keep changing things. You know, a 1” headset is 1”, unless it’s the new Japanese 1”, or a Worksman 1”. And Bottom Brackets, BB spindles, axles, and on and on.

No it wasn't sarcasm. I'm maybe a Pole, but I'm no wise-guy :acute:I was looking for a company that makes older standard BCD rings, cause I love the design of older Shimano groupsets like Alivio or STX. Alivio as an example had a 3 piece 5x105 BCD, and those cranks are just sweet - pure and simple.

Well, I do a lot of my shopping at Universal Cycles. Here’s what they have: (none 105) The first is under mountain, the second under road. I see 104 & 107... (I bet Shipping to Europe would probably be prohibitive.)

Of course, I try to support my LBS whenever possible, but sometimes they lack for selection, are at 200% markup, or a global pandemic keeps them all closed!
