I finally got stared again on The Elgin

A quick update I bought this off craigslist(from now RRB Member onetymehero) last November or December. Started to build it for RRBO4

Ran out of time to finish it how I wanted. So I changed frames

Re: ELGIN ORANGE

I sure do love those swoopy Elgin frames. Looks good already. Can't wait to see it finished.

just a fun mock up in the grass

I originally did the mock up with the girl skirts and girl rear fender.Today I decided to use the rear boys fender as it matches the front and is a little
wider then the girls I will just drill some holes for the skrits. Also thinking of jumping on the no paint bandwagon

the boys fender is in rough shape put should look good naked
Thanks Skip

Re: ELGIN ORANGE UPDATE 9-23

Another Elgin! Sweet! That would look very cool with the skirts and no paint.

Re: ELGIN ORANGE UPDATE 9-23

I agree. Especially with the creme tires. I did a build like that. Just oiled the bare metal.

Re: ELGIN ORANGE UPDATE 9-23

There is a guy in Denver that builds beautiful hand bent bikes from 1/2" tubing and his finish is a Scotch Brite pad and a can of WD40. When it starts to rust he just hits it with the SB pad and puts another liberal coat of WD40 on it. It's genius!

Re: ELGIN ORANGE UPDATE 9-23

Personally I'd put a good polish on it with a Scotch Brite pad, chemical etch it, and shoot it in a flat or satin clear and be done with it.

Re: ELGIN ORANGE UPDATE 9-23

Yeah, leave it bare. Those Schwalbes are so expensive who can afford paint after buying a set anyway? LOL. Looks great laying there. Stick it all together!

Re: ELGIN ORANGE UPDATE 9-23

Really digging the bare metal feel. I'd keep it for sure!

Fender is a little beat and bent up but it does look good naked
Going to use chemical stripper for the back side of the skirts
the camera did not like the basement light skirts same sliver as the fender

elgin011-2.jpg

elgin009-2.jpg

Dumb question number 1(for this build  ) can I paint this hub? the brass wheel did not seem to scuff it up at all
Does it need to be media blasted?

Yeah right, first you start with something innocent like this, then you end up seeing imaginary people like Russell Crow in a A Beautiful Mind :D

Re: ~ELGIN ORANGE~ UPDATE 10-03

have not got much if any thing done this week.
I need some warm weather to spray clear lacquer on this thing. Highs in the 50's all week :(
going to try and finish mock up so when the weather hits the 70's(hopefuly before April) I can do one last rub down with scotch brite
then spray
