I believe that I like the first image also the bend at the fork crown would be easier to do and be in keeping with Pedersen geometry.
The straight rods are at there maximum 36” length as posted in today’s pics. Thus I need longer rod or need to add a joiner piece and a short section to get length for the bend. The bend would also eliminate potential brake interference.

A combination of longer U bolt and longer L brackets at the axle would probably give you enough to get the bend in at the fork crown (I agree it's the best place to bend it) also possibly threading the rods right onto the U bolt may look cleaner there too. Now, what kind of bracket are you going to fab to hold the tubes at the bend?

That forkcrown photoshop bend looks perfect.
To keep from getting longer rods, why don't you remove the bottom angle brackets and use threaded eye bolts to get the added length you need and give a smoother transition to the fork?

My original thought was to use eye bolts at axle or fender mount hole but the ones I’ve seen are humongous. If I had an anvil I’d make a couple. Carl’s suggestion to let the truss rods be an extension of the U-bolt is probably worth exploring. I’ll have to get a 5/16” version and experiment. I have some connectors that would work.

I think your idea of letting the rods extend from the U-bolt ends has merit and is worthy of exploring. I have some connectors. That would get rid of the square tube.
The fork crown bracket has been running through my mind all night. I don’t have many sophisticated tools at my disposal so I’m a “repurpose” stuff builder. Isn’t that what “rat rods” are all about?

Version #?, think I followed Carl’s suggestion on U/bolt to rod connection. At least my interpretation. That does lengthen the rods some near the axle mounting area. The fork crown mount is probably next on the agenda.

My Play Angry Shockers dropped another game today. Therefore after the loss I got into the Build Angry mode and roughed out the fork crown bracket and bent the truss rods. I used s simple 5” T-plate with hole spacing that seemed about right. A couple holes for the 5/16 rods and the 5/8” fork stud and rough bracket exists. I’ll need radius the sharp corners. Also need to tweak the fork axle brackets.

Thanks Sir RM. Funny thing when I started this, my goal was to change the frame and fork color. The black scuffed up as it is is growing on me. So the rods will initially get a coat of black...although it could still change. Need to fine tune fit and mounting points before it gets color.
 
Great execution on the truss rods. They look great!
 
I decided to use a heavier gage bracket at the truss rod fork mount...used an L-bracket drilled new mounting holes. I also cut the extra length off and rounded the corners.

With the simplified U-bolt mounting at stem I actually needed to shorten the rods 3/4”. That also required adding more threads to rod prior to cutting them to fit.

I also ground off the corners on the fork crown bracket prior to fitting the rods to their new mounts.

The truss rod bracket looked a little bare so it got a light that Santa brought me.

Now I need to get back to working out the “Pedersen style seat” or a faux version thereof. The seat that’s on it is pretty comfortable though...we’ll see what happens.

Well done on the fork rods... They look perfect.
Thanks I needed that...not sure about perfect but I like them. They didn’t turn out bad for using common hardware parts.

Thanks to you also for encouragement, now to get some paint on them.
Thanks also to Home Depot for having the hardware pieces, I usually have to go to ACE or True Value.

I like the look of the lower brackets!

You may not have a problem, but ultimately paint will not stick very well to the galvanized metal pieces. If you prefer raw metal, you can soak them in vinegar to remove it.
 
I was iffy on that truss bracket till you put that headlight on there. Now it looks like there's a reason to be flat.
