How do you remove lettering from chainguard

I have a Schwinn chain guard with nice, blue paint and white lettering. The white looks like it was added by screen paint process, not a decal. I want to remove the lettering without damaging the Sky Blue factory Schwinn paint underneath the white lettering.

Does anyone have successful experience with this job?

I have accidentally removed those letters cleaning my first schwinn with concentrated simple green. Might be worth a try.

If this is an older Schwinn,and you could remove the painted lettering from the chainguard,I would expect to still see ghost lettering. The original Sky Blue factory paint under the white lettering would not have faded.
