Huffy Thunder Road #56

Very clean Thunder Road.Picked this one up from the original owner.
This one looks a little different than most of the ones that I have seen.
It has a chain ring instead on a chain guard and no orange boarder around the # plates.
The fenders also look a little lighter also but do not appear to be faded.
Is this a year thing?
If any of you Thunder Road Guys know .Please let me know.

Scott, that is nice!! I have one with the 56 on top like that, and 2 of mine do not have the orange border. I have seen some with the chain ring guard like that, with those fender stripes, but have never owned one. I am thinking it may also be a regional thing, as there seem to be differences that pop up here and there. I am guessing this is a 1976 or 1977? Andy

That looks like a 1976 which would be the first year for that model. In 1977 Huffy used the full length chainguard and by 1978 or 1979 they added the orange border stripes on the number plates.
