Here is starsNbars from Build Off 9. It's my 1938 Hawthorne Twin Bar (5 bar) Monark made bike.

Do my eyes deceive me or are there two little eyes on the top of that star headlight?

It was semi restored at one time, then faux patina added. It needs some love and a lot of loose nuts and bolts tightened. After a few shots of Bulleit Bourbon the other night, I took her out for a spin down the street. This tank rides like a Caddy! Love it!

I found this 1934 Hawthorne in a thrift store. I am currently attempting to restore it. It has one original wood clad wheel but, it is cracked, the back wheel is a Schwinn S2 I would love to find pictures to see what is original and what is not. I would like to post some pictures but, like others I am new to this stuff and can't see how.

Bought this this past weekend. Having a problem determining the year. Looks like 2 digits before the "SN" stamping on the bottom bracket. Very soft "2 digit number stamping" so no picture.
Thought it might be a late 30s or early 40s at first but, with the forward facing dropouts, I just don't know.
I got it because of the unique front springer fork. The spring is shrouded with a chromed cone. The front shockease setup has a slotted dropout for the front axle that puts the spring in action. I'll bet it will be heck trying to remove and reassemble.
But, one of the joys about this hobby is taking them apart of and fighting to get them back together.
I'm sure I will be taking alot of disassembly pictures on this revival rebuild.
The bike is cool looking with the skirtguards but, the wife says it's ugly as all get out.
Your thoughts and comments are welcomed. I did find the bike listed in my Hawthorne book....1947. But, serial number has me stumped.

Finished this Hawthorne a week or so ago. Rides real nice

Bought this as a frameset a few weeks ago. '37 Wards Hawthorne Duralium.
Built up some 26 x 57mm wheels, NOS ND front hub, Sachs Dreigang 3 speed rear, Project 346 tires, half link KMC chain, Persons tire siren and a vintage flashlight.

No fenders on this one.

Still have some work to do on the crank. Chrome should clean up pretty good.

Dig these half link chains.

With a black saddle.

Was advised this is a Snyder built Hawthorne. Has the earlier 1935 headbadge so again, my assumption that it was a 35 may be incorrect.
So it looks to be a 1937, possibly the Streamlined Sport model.
Lots to do yet to this one.
But, another Zep style Double Bar for the collection.

Sprocket likes it.

I was excited to see the badge. And based on that alone...which you should never do... .I was thinking mine was a 35.
Clearly it is not a motorbike style frame nor does it have stainless fenders.

Did you start removing the green paint, or did you get it like that? Mine was solid red, huge pain to remove it, but worth it when your done. Yours will be sweet if you remove the old paint, but cool bike either way.

KP..the pervious owner started the goof off process and he found the red paint.
I have not started on the rest of the revival yet. Waiting on some warm weather.
Hopefully I can save the pinstripes on this.
Lots to do yet. But, I love a challenge.
