I was so glad that this build off got me to finish this one. It sat for over 2 years in pieces in the corner of the garage. The paint remover didn't do a good job so I decided to just send the parts out for blasting and powdercoating.

Most of the original parts were in good shape except for the seat, chainguard, tires and handlebars.

The shifter needed the most work. The stencil worked great.

Here's the details

Shortly after completing the build, I took it to a show and swap meet. I had the pleasure of showing it to this lady who rode it as little girl. She had tears in her eyes and was sharing some memories with me. She said she always loved the slick on the back and that the boys always noticed her on the "Stingray"!

The show was also kind to the Fastback as it went home with a 1st!

That's beautiful.

Tell me more about the stencil, was this part of a kit?
I bought off of eBay a couple years ago. Haven't seen it list for a while now. I still have 1 more. I think I will have to see it I can have a few more copies made. It worked great.

Beautiful job. Fastbacks look best in black.

This came out great. In the picture the wheels look bigger than 20 inch. What size are they?
They are 20"

Excellent job!

Didn't that lady want her bike back?
I think she was happy just for the memories that came back upon seeing it. I offered to let her ride it, but she said she was afraid she might dump it over.

The elusive black fastback.
1 year only right? Very nice. Will look great in any collection.
They actually were available in black from 66-68. The 66 having the sprint equipment on it made it unique. And then the Ramshorn was available in 67 & 68. The 67 & 68 dealer brochures are the only times that a Stingray is shown in black.
