I started this build as the Falstaff Flyer, but the bike took its own direction and I didn't like it.
But after thinking it over, I decided to continue it as the unknown murray.

Here's what I started with, a 92 Westport.

A little cutting and welding gave me this.

I stretched both fenders to the ground, and removed and repositioned the canti tubes.
The rear fender broke, so I fixed it. I'll get pics of it later.

Originally, it was to be skiptooth. But when the Falstaff Flyer idea went away, so did the skiptooth idea. Atleast for this bike.

I'll keep going with this, still using as many Murray parts as I can. Welcome to Ohio.

How she sits now

Original plan was a tank bike, but a tank would take away from the lines.
Been thinking about cutting the rear rack off my Nel Lusso frame and welding it to this, would make it a Murphy; but who cares.

Thought about putting a Higgins headbadge on it anyway.

Tried to remove the fork and bars today. Unfortunately I think this bike sat outside for 25 years, the rust is tough.
Have it soaking in oil, will try again tomorrow.

Got the fork and bars off.

Bearings are rusty, not sure if they're salvageable.

I tried out a Schwinn fork.

But the fender screw is seized up, it's soaking.
And I can't quite tell, but I think the legs are bent.

If I can get the screw out tomorrow, I'll put the fork on a level surface and make sure.
Worse case scenario, Ann Arbor is coming up.

No luck finding forks at Ann Arbor, so I'm still hunting.

But I did get a repop Mercury headbadge.

My understanding is that Mercury was Murray's house badge, so I figured why not.

All I need now are forks/truss rods, and a proper rear rack. Once I get those I can get it to bare metal for body and paint work.

Super cool build

Super cool build
Thanks.
I still can't get the fender screw out of the fork, might have to drill and tap.

I think I'll make my own truss rods, and still searching for the right rack at the right price.

Forgot I put a bid on these dudes.

Should be here in a couple days.

Also got some steel rod for trusses, will work on those this weekend.

Still have some work to do on the fenders, find a rack and then body work.

Got my pedals today, and I don't like the blocks.
I want to replace them, but not sure how to get the pedals apart. The blocks look like they're riveted.

Bad pics, I know. But anyone have an idea how to get them apart?

It's been about a year, and there's still life in this build.

Thanks to @Cda_Cruisers I have this beehive fork and Higgins rack.

Still have to figure out the fenders. Then I think body work and paint calls it done.
