I did a little dealing with a friend tonight after work and got this bike. He said it was a Monarch, but I want a second opinion. EVERYTHING was rattle canned black, Schwinn pedals, way wrong seat, the forks are bent and the seat tube is broken out of the bottom bracket.

Thoughts as to an approximate year or model or any info?

Re: Monarch(s)

Thanks Gary.

Less than 7 hours after getting my first ever Monarch I get my second. I got a call at 7:30 this morning from a guy answering my flier that is hanging up at the local gas station. He is one of my son's teachers, but he also owns the self-storage facility here in town. He had this left in an abandoned unit. Said he didn't know what it was but if I wanted it, then it was mine.

Not in too bad shape. Fender braces are a little tweeked, paint isn't great little rust on the chrome. On the plus side it has a cool set of white bow pedals and a nice Komet Super.

Any info on this one? I haven't found any stampings on either frame yet.

Re: Monark(s)

The forks will be going straight to the scrap bin. The frame I would like to use. After staring at the bike for a while now, is the bottom bar supposed to be curved or is it bent. Anybody have a pic of another frame that hasn't smashed a wall like the Kool-aid Man?

Re: Monark(s)

A comparison would be good. To me, not only do the top tubes look a little odd, the upper tail frame doesn't really seem to "flow" with the top tube. May be normal, I can't say. :?

Re: Monark(s)

   to 'Oh yeah!' I say bend here straight and weld her up!! But toss the fork.

Re: Monark(s)

I spent some time this morning finding the serial numbers on both of these. Can anyone help me put a year on them?
The black one has M400-6 4699042 on the bottom bracket. The blue ladies frame has 1H765083 on the right drop out. Anyone?

Hmm, Monark serial #'s went to 7 digis in 52, but never got past 1911106in 54, last of the ballooners. But sometimes there are extra digits that "don't count", I know there are on bikes built for Sears. So if the actual # is 469xxx it's a 49, 699xxx would be a 50. The 1H number is 1961. -Adam

Thanks Adam! The black one will be my build off bike, unless I come home with a better frame from one of the two upcoming swap meets. The ladies frame I am going to build for my mom. She never had her own bike growing up so I will suprise her for her birthday at the end of July. That means I have to get them both done by then. This might get interesting. :D
