I did try to expand the picture to see what was happening with the drop-outs, but the resolution wasn't great. I knew it was older...the head tube angle looks pretty slack, yes?

Yes pretty slack, made for rough roads. The drop downs are for a 4 speed cassette with 114 OLD hub. The slide ins are for single speed, which a lot of racers were using as derailleurs really hadn't caught on yet. It only has a rear derailleur, which is cable operated. I'm glad it's not a suicide rod activated derailleur because I would have a problem bending down to shift it.
