Nothing wrong with riding a build off bike!!!! Just give them a ultra cleaning when you get ready for pics. They aren't dirty, that's just road patina!!

Got this project done so back to the bike. What’s the recommended gauge of steel to build an insert? It will just be a flat panel but I don’t want it too thin and all I have handy is some 18 gauge.

While it rides fantastic this frame is too long for me with a banana seat. Do they make a frame this style with a top tube length shorter then 21 inches? I still plan to finish it but at this point it’s not a keeper

You could try and find a 24" Columbia.
Or find some handlebars that extend back to shorten your reach.

One thing I don’t do very much is accessory’s, most of my builds are bare bones but I wanted a rack on this one and then @kingfish254 ’s build convinced me I could have both a banana seat and a rear rack so now we have both. Also added a small 1984 plate I got off a bike I parted out. Reflectors front and rear! The scrap yard didn’t have any sheet metal in a gauge I wanted today so no filler panel yet. I did buy 2 more parts bikes while there though!

Let your brain flow and listen to the bike and your gut.

I like this build, want to see you keep going with it.
Frame length, consider if youre sitting in the low area of the banana seat, youre pretty far back on the frame.
Move the seat forward by flipping the guts around, or moving the post attachment point back on the seat base. This will move your butt/ body forward on the bike.
A different banana seat may be the solution - before spending any cash, throw a regular seat on the post you have and test ride it to see if the frame feels right with you moved forward.
If you had a taller sissy bar you could tilt the seat forward to move your body forward as well. The 20" frame banana seat and sissy may be causing all the issue with riding position.

If any of this works and you like the frame and forward seating position. See if you can mount the 20" banana and sissy on the seat stays instead of the drop out, youll gain height on the sissy bar and can move the banana seat forward. Either a clamp on mount or drill thru the frame. A spacer that matches the seat stay radius and sissy radius at the correct angles would tighten it all up.

i actually managed to gain enough for comfort by throwing my spaceliner stem on it for a test run. The stem I’m using sets the bar too far forward. So now I’m hunting a new old stem!

So from borrowing my spaceliners original stem I figured out I could use this frame, problem was that style stem like pictured in this photo is sloppy in my fork. It’s just too small.

Well last week I was at the local scrapyard and some had dropped off 40 bikes, nothing old but two beach cruisers with good wheels went home with me for 40 cents a lb.

this very crusty stem off of that cheap huffy both fits my fork snugly and moves the bars back were I need them. So tonight while working on some CAD (cardboard aided design) I got it put together with nothing flopping around.

Tomorrow I’m getting a frame repaired out at my former employers and hopefully picking up the last thing I have planned for this build!

Attempt one failed I think all the years in the back of the shop oil coated this stuff. Paint washed off and the only rust is placed I hit with a wire brush. Going to strip it down this week and try again

I decided too try this mustard thing, I didn’t have the fancy one though! This is of course after starting too wipe it off. It certainly adds an interesting smell too your paint lol

Couldn’t find anything I wanted to mount the insert so I started with this.

Then tryed some more of that mustard trick because aluminum doesn’t rust.
