Looks to me that what caught everyones attention was the good look factor. Mafaux has a cool color combination between the tires and frame and even dough I find it good looking I didn't vote for it. Main reason is because I can't ride that style of bike without my knees hitting the handlebars. Therefore I always like the bmx look or klunker style type of build since being able to ride the bike is more important to me.

For example a built this bike a while back
viewtopic.php?t=49090

I'm tired of looking at it since I can't ride it so I'm now ready to take it apart and start with just the frame and convert it into a bmx or some kind of urban klunker.

Congratulations to all that participated and dished out cool ideas and one of a kind inventions!!

I am glad we returned to voting for rat not bling. This year there are so many good rat builds. Dare I say it's the best field we have had so far.

I enter to push the envelope.

Next year it's the Hater all the way.

I don't know man...I see more custom/bling at the top than I see rat. Most of the bikes doing well have slick paint, nice wheels, nice tires, pinstriping, fabricated parts, etc. I guess it just depends on what you consider rat or custom. I kind of see rat bikes as the German Spy, Uncle Touchy, Seminole. They are super cool bikes that are somewhat stripped down, patina'd paint/chrome. I guess everyone sees it a little differently and that's a good thing.... :D

Everyone has their own opinion on what a rat is. Last year my entry had nice paint, some new parts & some fab work. It actually did pretty well in the build off. This year, no paint, old tires, used wheels, etc. The only new parts used on this build was the black chain & a few nuts & bolts. If a person is trying to find out the combo that everyone likes....good luck! Build it how you like it & see what happens, that is what keeps it interesting, Just my .02 worth.

Yep...couldn't have said it better. I think that's why you see a lot of different style bikes all so close in the standings. I've said it before. It's best to build exactly what you like and want and not worry about votes.

As far as one "style" of bikes doing better than another or being different in the voting from the past two build offs, I don't see it either. But remember we are not here to define a specific style as "rat". It is even in the Forum rules that it is verboten to do so. But with that said, one of my favorite TRUE RAT TRUE DAT builds from BO6 was Maine Woods. Here are the bikes I think match up as along those lines.

64 Gasser
Bad Fish
Dakota Bandit
Devil's Darling
20" of Awesome (even though it is like a the perfect 20" rat crashed into the Guggenheim  )
Green With Envy
Higgins German Spy
Last Ditch Effort
Nuttin Fancy
Poco Rata
Rhubarb Raider
Seminole
Ubernaturlich
Uncle Touchy

I like the differences in ideas of what everyone feels what a Rat is. I like the nice theme bikes, the shiny customs, the patina'd look, rusty relics......all of them. To me, they're all a Rat since they're all differnt from stock. Our combined differences are what makes us a tight knit family.

+1 - And the variety definitely keeps anyone from getting bored!!

Yeah Pick and B. I agree with ya. We build what we like regardless of a trend. Hey nobody else spent 6 bucks for a 45 record from the 80's ,that cost 1 buck to own on itunes, that nobody has a record player to play on, that's good for nothin....(feel free to rant along) :p

I don't try to imagine what people want to vote for anymore, because it will never make sense. haha This is a rat rod bike website and therefore a rat rod bike competition. Last year I made a ratty bike, but I had to fake the patina, only getting 9 votes this year I built a bike with actual patina, just some steel wool and linseed oil as a finish and I now have 10 votes, but bikes getting more votes than me have pretty paint or fake patina. haha Different strokes for different folks. I'm just glad I have another cool bike in my collection now, and none of you can have it.

Had I finished G.I.JESSE JAMES I think I would have had under 10 votes.

Gosh!! That avatar is cracking me up!! Ya name is killer too.

Me and my vinyl had a blast. Nothing beats Molly Hatchet on vinyl, but I need to borrow your record player if you find one cause mine died. Rat on y'all
Remember the 45 was on my bike on the rear hub. 3 more for Joan! 3 more for Joan!
Hey when does the official gallery of the build post?!?

Just a little more than 5 hours left in Build Off 7!!!!!

I've been MIA for a while during the voting... I'm happy that Lackluster has received a good amount of votes. Top ten (so far) is pretty awesome. Makes me proud that I built something others would want to own. Thanks to all who threw a vote my way.

One of my votes went to MoFaux. When I first saw his finished pics I said "WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER".... I was right, and it deserves it. It stands out when you see it and just makes you smile. Very well done sir! (I'm also proud that the trophy will be in California this year!)

Moby's Rider had my vote EASILY!

3 more hours.

I kinda don't want it to end, it's been a long fun ride!!!
