Here are a few of my “secrets”. Of course if I know them they can’t really be secret. The first is to use a mixture of lacquer or clear model paint or clear nail polish and mix it with talcum powder. You paint a thin filler layer to fill gaps in cardboard or wood on models, like the spiral seams on model rocket tubes. This combo will melt into plastic leaving a rough finish. The second is to use a mixture of baking soda and super glue to make a very hard plastic. Be careful as the chemical reaction causes enough heat to burn you. This works to repair broken plastic or gaps in plastic. Use it to repair vintage typewrites or vintage radio boxes. It won’t go anywhere, hard and tough. These small brushes have been perfectly cleaned many times using a Kleenex initial wipe followed by hot water and a circular gentle scrub on a bar of Fels Napha soap. Wash again in hot water and use toilet paper to squeeze out the water. Repeat if you see any color on the TP but you probably won’t. Works on acrylic and oil based paint.

The baking soda and super glue trick is used by luthiers. I knew one who called it "instant bone." You can fill a worn slot in a stringed instrument string nut with the mixture and then file a new slot. The best string nuts are bone hence "instant bone." Very informative post. Thank you.

Also , good to:
Fill small cracks in carbonfibcarbon fiber.

Doosh Shove Oh! is almost done. I’ll probably post my finished picture tomorrow.

In the meantime... I’m stoked about my daughters pink Corvette. She’s gonna flip.

We are into our last week of the Rat/ Rod Model Kit Bash Challenge!
Let's see how many final photo posts we can generate before December 15 !
One more prompt to all of those who either expressed interest, or actually started a kit bash:
@kingfish254
@ifitsfreeitsforme
@Jake Sensi
@gowjobs
@bear bear
@deven_science
@Falstaff
@us56456712
@modelcarjedi

Did I miss anyone? And, as I went back through the challenge thread, man, did we have fun with this or what?! So many nostalgic comments from our youth, those things that really got us into our first ventures in customizing and adding our own twist to 'stock' projects / models. It's been really fun! Thanks to all for joining in, either with a kit bash or comments along the way.

Now, let's finish with a flourish! BaSh oN~!

Our son came to visit from NYC this summer and we quarantined him in our camper. The plastic around the door was cracked and let in bugs. We repaired it with “instant bone”. I got some on my fingers and boy, did that burn.

I’m going to finish, but probably not in the way I envision. I ran out of sand colored paint. That hasn’t been shipped from Amazon, even though it was ordered last week. The pilot is supposed to be a skeleton sitting on a toilet smoking a cigar, but that was supposed to be delivered last week but hasn’t been shipped yet. So the plane for the build off will most likely have a toy soldier pilot and an alternative color. Rommel’s Rod needs body decals and it’s done. The plane needs paint, decals, front wheels, prop mounting, antenna, pilot and canopy. Easy if I had the stuff to finish.

Baron von RAThofen and his Funfdecker Fokker

Worked on this a little last night.

Chopped the tiny rails and front end from the Lil Baron.

Need to build longer rails and front end to hold the hemi and such. I picked to clean section of the parts cage and cut and trimmed them up and then glued them to the Lil Baron.

Did some body work on the figure next. I still need to glue the Baron head to the figure.

Test fit the body in the cockpit and the head on the body after I cut away the bottom of the Baron.

A few fun things:

The figurine is a rat. Has a tail. He’s actually seated on back seat. Front seat deleted.

To fit the rat, I crushed him with pliers and stuffed him through the roof hole. He remained crushed just long enough and expanded back to normal once inside. Good luck getting out buddy.

The wife’s jewelry driving lights look good. Lesson: don’t throw anything out.

The rear spare was my idea. Felt like it needed more visual weight back there.

Cheers all.
