:D I get the biggest kick each year with so many warnings about going too far. :D

Thanks for ALL the comments and concerns guys. I do take them into consideration, but at the same time I'm still gonna have fun and build a kingfish bike.

Just like last year, I'm enjoying the challenge of putting my touch on a beautiful frame and parts.

In the end, if I don't have fun then the build is a failure.
KF, is it really possible to go too far? I think not. I am doo dad junkie in rehab. Yuk, yuk.

I have had this tank idea ever since I got my Gaskill higgins rack a few years ago. Just had to find a bike worthy of it.

It was still very hard to take this photo and actually start cutting.

I'm pretty stoked with the rough draft. This will help me with the vintage hot rod vibe I want.

Cool idea!
It is hard to cut up vintage parts sometimes, but once it's past the point of no return it quickly gets fun again.

I agree. I had added anxiety on this part because it was also a fairly iconic artistic piece too. I don't think I would have thought twice about cutting a plain Higgins rack.

I'm pretty pleased with how nice a tank shape it has too.

I've actually been mocking this up with the full size rack since day one. I just didn't want to unveil the idea until I was sure I want it to go under the knife.

Here is the first mock up from May 1st. This is before I channeled it to sit lower on the mid tube

I loved the way it looked every time I tried it out. Now that it is narrower, I love it even more. It's a perfect scale for the bike and I also like how well the color works with the frame and the ratty zeppelin guard too.

Here are the mock ups from today.

Love the lettering on the tank, too!—it fits the bike so perfectly from color to style.
