Finally decided on a name that fits what I want to build. An American gentleman’s bike. Classy but rugged, sophisticated but rough around the edges, old but with a modern touch. A timeless classic.

It's name shall be "The American Gentleman"
 
So I'm still waiting on parts. I got the tires and rims strips but waiting on tubes...

I got the crank arms but waiting on the bottom bracket bearings and such...

I got the lights but need to check clearance with tires installed...

And still waiting on the seat.

So we wait...

Another day of progress and ordering more parts. The left pedal is practically rust welded to the bent crank arm so I went looking for new pedals. Went with white to complement the white grips and whitewalls.

I had to ditch the fenders in favor of the fatter tires and I may have to tweak the frame a bit in the chainstays area to gain some clearance.

On a side-quest I got another Skyrider! Might swap around a few parts between them then build them both. I swapped out the seat off my old one on to this one to replace the totally wrong seat on it.

Got the pedals yesterday and they are looking great. Almost finished with it. Just have to tweak the frame a bit to clear the tires or switch to a smaller tire which is not a favorable action. Then I might add a few coats of matte clear just to protect it.

I'm just waiting on my new tires and it should be ready for it's maiden voyage. Had to go 1.5 on the tires the 2.125's rub hard so rather than tweak the frame I'm gonna see if I can get away with a smaller tire. But for now I got a $10 yard sale bike to clean up and flip so check out fresh finds soon...lol
 
Finally got the smaller tires I ordered (26x1.50) and they look great. Now tomorrow I can get those on and see how it rides. Also decided I'm going to sell my second Skyrider as soon as I get the new seat, pedals, lights, and tires on it. and keep the Haro mountain bike I just got (my $10 score) as well as my build off Skyrider. I'd like to keep all 3 but limited space forces me to be reserved.

Those are the old ones that rub. These are the new ones which fit but I'm still on the fence about. I think it looses some of the look with the skinny tires. But it rides amazing.

Looks lean and fast! What about some 'aged' skinny fenders? Even a narrow wood 'strip fender' would be cool. I did these wood strip fenders for my 'Woody' build in MBBO #4. Fairly easy, I can share the process if you like.

I kinda like the fenderless look on this one. But thanks for the idea.
 
Like em both! But I think that you made the right decision, that Haro is special. E-stay bikes have a cult following, it'll get respect at any vintage MTB event, but it's really meant to be ridden hard!

What do you mean by E-stay?
 
Elevated stay. It's the way the rear stays go up at an angle instead of to the bottom bracket. It shortens the back end and makes it climb and accelerate well. It never really took off because it made the bikes heavier, so they only existed for a few years, but there are some glorious examples...
