Westfield Built Camelback (1934, maybe 1921)

From my research and other members comments it appears that Westfield/Columbia offered this style bike as a 26” or 28” bike in 1934. A 1921 fork would have had less space for tires, I have a couple of older 28” forks that in no way will accommodate 2.125 tires. I guess the fork could have been changed out so I’ll never know for sure as to whether it is from 1921 or 1934. The way it sits now I’ll go with ‘34 until I loose the fenders, add a 28” or 700c wheelset and one of my 28” forks.

31 degrees this morning. I put the tank back on without the edge trim.

I have a bike with a similar looking
I did some rust removal on the tank, cleaned up the notch and gave it a primer seal coat.
I like the triple step wheel on the back inferior as it may be. I had a New Departure “W” hub and an extra triple step rim so I had a spare front wheel built up. The wheels will somewhat match now. These old bikes are money pits but fun. Beats playing golf or drinking.

raw uncovered seat. I put Penetrol on it 3 years ago and once each spring, It doesn't rust more and nothing comes off on your pants. The furtherest I have ridden it has been 10 miles, 3 times on classic rides. No problem with butt discomfort.

Contemplating adding LED bulb to the old light. I hate to clean it up. Thinking it will keep its patina.

Also picked up an old pancake horn. It’s marked with a “W”, unsure of what brand this was. Just need a bracket and 6 volts of power.

I got a couple of 1142 base LED bulbs for the light. I put together a 12V battery pack and with some low voltage wire and a switch I was able to get it to light up. I need to come up with a positive way to connect power wires to back connector on light. We have an old auto parts swap meet coming up soon. Usually some good finds there.
The reflector appears to be silver or nickel plated and is tarnished. I’d like to polish it up to get better light distribution. The glass lens is in real good condition after cleaning it up.

The old light got new life today.

The light requires a mating 1142 type bayonet connector at the back to power the bulb. The contacts are spring loaded to make contact with the bulb contacts. One of the contacts at back side apparently had a broken spring and wouldn’t keep a steady contact with out being held in place. So I drilled two holes to feed conductors through to the bulb side. I soldered the wire ends to the bulb contacts. Thus I had a stable rat rod style connection for the 12v battery pack and light. A few sequence photos follow.

The battery pack can be concealed in the toolbox tank. I still need to clean the light reflector. I’ll probably put a cap/cover on the back of the 1142 connector and add disconnect connectors for the feed wire to tank.
The rest of it stays as is.

Simple stuff but effective...now for install at 20 degrees, ice and snow outside. Garage is unheated so it may wait.

Awesome work as always, love the horn !

When I originally got this old bike I started adding parts. I replaced the front wheel with a triple step rim to match the back. I’d also found the fork to be damaged and was bent and missing one dropout lug. Someone had added two beefy washers to help hold the axle in place. I had started looking for a replacement fork.

I finally found one offered up on The CABE from Krakatoa. I got it installed today. Now I have the motivation to go through the bike by cleaning, greasing, lubing and maybe some paint. Guess it could become a #15 build off project depending on rule set, if it happens.
