I'm All Fired Up Over an eBay Seller!

Postby Danimal on Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:33 pm

I won't give any item or seller specifics right now, as I have to see how it is resolved, but I need to rant!!!

I won an auction almost 2 weeks ago and paid the seller the next day via PP. He overcharged for shipping, but it was clearly listed so I paid it without argument (yes, I knew it ahead of time). Haven't heard a word from the guy so I emailed him tonight to ask where my item was and if he had tracking info. I could not believe his response.

He said he will ship it tomorrow! He also informed me that he would not send it with tracking because the item didn't sell for as much as he thought it would. He also gave me the option of a full refund if that was not ok. ***? Apparently he wants to offend me so I file a claim, and then he will just refund me and keep it. Wow, I have a bad feeling about this one.

So that's why we haven't seen you on here in a while. If you want the part have it shipped and then slam him on his feedback, If you don't get it you will get refunded thru paypal. Keep on him.

Rick,

I've been on here, perhaps a little less than normal, but I haven't been posting as much.

Stay tuned though. A couple projects will be coming together soon.

You have the advantage here I believe....as a seller, he doesn't have the ability to leave negative feedback.

Sellers who pull this sort of stuff now days must not realize this.

I too won an auction this week. Watched the count down and paid immediately through PayPal! The seller informed me, the next day, that shipping was going to be 5x what he had posted. We decided to refund my money.....Haven't gotten it yet. PayPal has it "pending", they said it would be at least 5 days before I get it...........Ebay, I'M DONE!........PayPal, I'M DONE!

Danimal,
I think since the seller wont give you a tracking #.... tells me he probably wont ship it, and when you contact him again because it didnt show up, he will say he shipped it, and probably want you to file a claim with the post office. In the meantime if he is really stupid he will relist it, or throw it on his local craigslist to try to get more money out of it.

Keep copies of all communication, in case you need to report him.

Even if you do recieve it, sounds like he at least deserves negative feedback.

I know how you feel. I paid $1 for some pedals and $9 to ship them. Granted it was from CA and it is more expensive to ship to/from out there but geez. I decided I paid $5 + $5 to ship. Made me feel better.

One thing I do know, with Paypal and Ebay, is that when you file a dispute over a purchase, they immediately freeze his accounts.

This is usually inconvenient to the seller, assuming he has his paypal connected to some actual checking account somewhere. I'm not sure how they do it, whether it's held in escrow by Paypal till the resolution but it sure does get the sellers attention!

You handle it through Paypal, and I do not think you will have a problem. It takes a few minutes on Paypal's site to open a claim or dispute. I would do it now before the sale gets stale if ya know what I mean. Even if the seller says he has shipped it or will ship it. Until it's in your hands, make sure he is inconvenienced.

I would file a claim sooner than later. If he gets the money out of his account before it's frozen, you will never get it. I had a similar experience on ebay last year. I am still out $150.

I bought, well, paid for a parts bike and waited for two weeks with no communication. I then asked when I would see it and was given a fishy story. I let it slide for about a week, and then things got real fishy. I was eventually told by the seller to file a claim through paypal, and I would get my money. I tried that and the account had been cancelled. I never got the money. I found out that the seller has several ebay accounts. I did a little research and found pictures on other accounts that were taken at the same location etc...I scrounged up a lot of info. I sent a message to one account calling them on it; then bid and won an item from one of the other accounts. They called the next day and wouldn't admit to anything until I showed interest in doing business and buying several items. once I had the phone # I did some more research and found that it belonged to the same person that he had denied knowing. I called him a couple of times and would get weird stories so I would call and ask for different people, and he would answer to seveal names. I filed a claim faster the second time knowing I could get my money back if I acted fast. I may have just been temporaily angry, but the whole reason I bid on the second bike was a crazy plan to either get my money back from the first transaction or have their accounts cancelled. I did get the money back from the second time around, and got about 3 ebay scam accounts closed in the process.

Didn't mean to thread jack, It just brought up some old feelings :x
If they come, I will build it.

if you paid with a credit card you have up to 30 days to cancel. This came in handy when I had a similar experience.
