Sprockets and Gearing

Postby Carbon on Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:33 pm

Recently i've been doin a little R and D on sprocket ratios, i've put together a few combo's for anyone that is curious what to put on there next build. Got a recent promotion to manager at my work and seems i've been bringin a bit of stress home with me so I've really been enjoying putting very little effort into pedaling and wanting to relax more just cruising, a real good source of stress release for me. Here are a few really good 26" sprocket ratios I have found. 48/22---44/20---42/19---40/18---36/16 for anyone that may be curious, this pretty much covers all the rear coaster sprockets available now-a-days, these all pedal very easy but still very easy to quickly excellerate and maintain quick speeds.

Try 62/30 or 62/28 ...three of my bikes have this and it's a very interesting, very fun ride. You'll be surprised    ?....I'm thinking' maybe 52/25 or23?? Might work too...( fine print) all the above rear sprockets were altered from small, baby or BMX front sprockets

what works best for me has always been 52/22, 46-48/20 and 44/19. skiptooth wise it gets a little bit trickier, usually 26/10 and 24/10. i found early on that the 2:1 ratio system was too low geared for me,but then again where i live its all flat riding.

my daily is a 42/20 but its also a four speed so that multiplies. ive had pretty good luck at 42/13. the big one just came now and its a 36/15 and i hate it, dang bike doesnt go anywhere, but the sprocket still scrapes (freestyle big man bmx) so ive got a 30/11 soon enough, ill tell you all how that goes! if you go on dans comp, when you look at chain rings they give you a recommended size.
i hate "slow"

this one I hade to change to a 28t on the rear, a standard 22t wasn't cutting it on the take offs. Now it cruises nice.
