you have gears...my Surly wasn't going to be the Xtracycle it is today, and my gearing is downright BRUTAL for commuting (for the first week or so!).

Enjoy (as i'm sure you will) the Xtracycle!

thanks for the comments.

New Dharma, I am already enjoying and more so each day. The gears are nice though I only use a few. The single up front and derailier in the rear works great for a commuter.

i always love the question, "What kind of bike is that?" or "What do you haul with that?"

added fenders that I found on CL for $15. Plastic Zefals- not fancy, but functional.

Better than paying $50 for a spanking new set.

I just bought an xtracycle kit with freeloaders and footsies for $150.
It doesn't have some of the mounting hardware, but I can either buy it or just use some other things.

you luck dog. What a deal. There are only 3 bolts, and one nut needed to attach to the frame. You probably could buy those from a hardware store. The Front attachement plate is also needed.

If you have questions either New Dharma or myself probably could help. The re is a forum at Xtracycle also that could be of help

here is the owners manual

edit----2 special nuts needed Xtracycle might sell you a "build kit" so you have the cables, bolts nuts and other items. since you saved $$ That would be the wisest choice. They aren't too far away from you either.

Thank you for your advice.
I think I might be about to use part of a kickstand instead of a front attachment plate, but I'll have to try that out. With the rest of the mounting hardware hopefully I'll be able to find that at a hardware store.

bolt-on kickstand mounting plate should work...i had to modify how i mounted mine...the Surly's chainstay bridge is too close to the bottom bracket. I would have been ok if I ran a derailer, but doin' the singlespeed thing I needed to adjust back...at the time I never thought about a kickstand plate.

It's going to be put on a cannondale M500.
It's a light and durable frame from what I've heard, mine seems to be from the early 90's.

Also, thanks new dharma.

my xtracycle

Postby moleman on Fri May 18, 2007 10:23 pm

Well I retired my RatRod fixed gear cruiser, and moved my xtracycle kit from the mountain bike to the cruiser. What an improvement, lower, handles better, and I used these cool unbreakable wheels!
