How do you all live with these things?

Through a trade with a good friend I just got a new (to me) iPhone 3g 16GB and it has me about ready to pull my hair out! Long story short after playing with it for 15 minutes I went to erase all the previous user's junk out of it and now it is stuck on a screen that has a USB cord with an arrow pointing up to a CD and music note icon that says iTunes.

I tried to download the newest version of iTunes and it won't go because I am running windows XP but don't have service pack 2. I try to download service pack 2 and the server is busy or not responding

So I tried downloading an older version of iTunes 4.1 Got it in no problem. I plug in the phone and the computer finds the camera but Itunes doesn't recognize anything there.

Is there some driver I need? Or is my computer just too old to work with it?

Well finally after hours spent re-booting my computer from scratch, downloading service pack 2, downloading iTunes, downloading a driver pack, downloading new firmware, and 2 pots of coffee and 3 beers later IT'S ALIVE! Now if I can figure out how to put my music on it without having to buy it from iTunes.

I figured it out! Wooo! I guess I should change the title here to how did I live without it. This thing rocks! and that free game Angry Birds is addictive.

Yeah I'm updating the software on it now. So far it is pretty awesome.

Man I am impressed with this little thing, it takes better pictures than my camera!

I don't. I never had a mobile phone, don't have a mobile phone, and will never have a mobile phone.
Life is perfectly fine without all those stupid and useless shiny things from China, thank you very much.

I HATE having to have one, and hate is a word I don't like to use for anything. But these darn things are going to be our biggest headaches as the technology progresses. Every 3 months in the case of phones...... If it weren't for the job I don't know that I would have one.

BvZ.......I envy you for not having one! Maybe it's because England has/had the best phone booths everywhere!?

I HAVE to have one for work/kids/soccer etc....it sucks, but it's the world I live in...

Actually mine was designed in California...Assembled in China.

It's pretty ignorant to believe phones could be smart .
They are approximately as smart as 20 yards of motorway :mrgreen:

Actually all the new technology keeps you on your toes. At 61 I use to just have to watch out for drunks....Now I spend a good deal of my driving time watching out for the stupid people that are texting and driving. I'm really hoping they pass a law that if you see someone texting and driving , you can shoot them at the next light. Would make driving more fun. :roll:

Its not the world we live in its the world we created I mean really I went truck shopping just last week an the thing was almost 75,000 the dealer is telling me all about the nav system how it will sync with my phone so my calls come through the speakers man where does it end needless to say I'm still rideing in my 1990 f-250 fuel guzzlein truck not some sissyfied computerized peice of 75,000 dog

I can understand that, when I want a truck I want something that hauls junk around not a spaceship, I could care less if it even had a radio. Just give me a motor, lights, and an 8ft bed.
