Sears Spaceliner Find

Postby jimw1960 on Tue Sep 08, 2009 7:11 pm

I've been meaning to post this for awhile. I picked this spaceliner up in Austin a few weeks ago and finally got it cleaned up and adjusted. It is a nearly complete original condition; original tires, horn and tank light are working. I'm hoping to upgrade to a spaceliner springer fork if someone knows where I might find one. Also missing the plastic piece for the chain ring and rear reflector, so need to find those, too. Owner said the seat is original, but I don't think it is.

I have this available. I'm not sure if all the covers are the same, as these were sold through several different stores. Needs re-chromed, $5 plus shipping. LMK

nice one. I think they did come with those seats at one point. And yes, all those sprocket caps are the same size, they will fit on any of the sprockets with the five holes drilled in.

Yes that is one of the seats that came with the Spaceliner. There is also another seat that came with it that is also all black with a checker pattern :. Awesome bike.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I just bought a 2-speed kickback hub. Am I right that this was an option on some of the deluxe models?

Floyd, PM sent on the plastic piece. I figure I can paint it to look like new. Does it still have the plastic nubs that hold it on?

Yes some, but not all Deluxe models came with the two speed Kick-back hub. All depends on who built the bike :)

That's a great looking Spaceliner. 8) The seat on mine is different and I believe it is stock, too. It's got a crash rail and chrome trim around the bottom of it. It also looks like yours and mine have the horn button and headlight switch on opposite sides.

Yeah, each year model was a little different. Plus they had standard and deluxe models for some years. I'm thinking mine is from a later year when they started to cheap out on the seat construction. My favorite spaceliner is the 1960, which has a really unique tank design, as shown below. If you have one of these, it's worth some big bucks:

Not trying to steal your thunder, but here's mine. I think it's a '64, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
