Mini machine

Postby Boardtrack fan on Thu Feb 21, 2008 11:19 am

Ok, I'm starting to collect parts. All my stuff was for 26" bikes so I'm starting from scratch. My plan involves a donner BMX bike, modified schwinn stingray frame, and a lowrider springer up front.
It can be fast, safe or cheap. Pick two.

Well, the frame came in the mail today so I'm starting to mock-up what it will look like. I'm thinking either gloss or satin black with brown seat and grips and gold pinstipe. The bars will be cut down a bit and the frame will go from a cantilever to having two parallel top tubes. The rims an fork legs get painted black like the frame. Still not sure about the stem or the way to mount the seat.

I must say I never thought I would see a lowrider springer on a bike that I liked but that is just a beauty!

I think I'll just use the caliper brake that came with the Next but, a rear disc might be cool. HHMMMM.

Now discs would be awesome...May be a little too big for 20" wheels.

Good assembly of parts. I like the handle bars. Flat and swept back.

And so it begins! I've started cutting and grinding off all the ugliness I can find. I may cut off the kickstand as well. Next step will be to remove the paint and weld in the tube below the existing top tube.

I've got it stripped and the wheels taken apart. I also decided to remove the kickstand and seat clamp. I still have to weld on the lower tube and some tabs for the seat mount ala board track racer. Next will be some primer on the frame, rims and fork legs. I think I'm going to Paint the head tube candyapple red with scallops on the black frame and some sort of pin-stripe separating the two colors.
