Any tricks for squeaky seat springs?

Postby jamie_aitken on Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:41 pm

I have 5 cruiser seats(with the chrome springs),3 are new,and they ALL squeak.VERY annoying!
I'm hoping someone might have a tip to quiet them down.Thanks.

NAPA brand silicone spray on the spring and spring pockets would be worth a try. I recommend that brand because it's easy to find and is not petroleum based so therefore won't leave a residue for dirt to stick to nor stain clothing if you rub against it.

Another idea would be to make washers out of plastic from a milk jug for the spring pockets and washers to cancel out metal to metal contact at the spring mounting points. The thin plastic would be easier to conceal.

Salads and smooth roads may be the last resort. :D

Yeah it's the nature of the spring seats. Trying to quiet one on my Mothers bike now. Hers appeared to be squeaking at the pivot point up front not the springs. I put rubber washers where the frame attaches to pan at the front of the seat.

When some of mine start to make some noise I just spray some WD40 on all the springs and brackets. No more noise within seconds.

The springer on my Dyno Roadster squeaked, I sprayed a little white lithium grease on it, stopped right away, that was a couple months ago. Not sure if that would work on the seat though

You could also use Tri-flo....it is a spray like wd-40 but has Teflon in it...I've used it for years on everything!
