He just did not want to get grease under his nails.
This is my method but with a old mop handle cut off flat.
If it won't come off with laquer thinner, you need an abrasive!

Steel railroad spikes work good too. They are a softer metal than the cups.

I was using an old seat post. Didn't want to "tap" too hard and ruin the cups! Will try the Thor method and, if all else fails, will be posting in the Wanted section for new ones. Stay tuned true believers!

Gary is right, bigger hammer.
You won't hurt them.
Support the frame so that it does not move when you hit the cup.
Work your way around so that it comes out straight.

Nice idea! I have a broke one in my tool box. Broke off the male end. Ouch!

Used my broke extension and a bit more force. They finally popped out. Now for cleaning. To keep the paint out do y'all cover the holes with tape?

True and if it is nearly as hard to put back together I don't want to cut corners. Thanks for everyone's advice. It truely helps to have this forum with so many knowledgeable people!

anywhere ya tape, ya get an edge. An edge that in time can lift,or be seen. ya just dont gob the paint in there. I have refinished about 25 bikes, and never masked one. just saying....
The factory didnt mask it, did they?

I never mask the BB shell just make sure you clean any old paint before you start to paint! Only mask it if you plan to spray it for a 30 minute period!!!

You lay the tape inside the BB where the cups press fit, not out over the shell ends.
Or any way you want to; just sayin' it works for me.
