I know that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but there are some monster collections out there. And this would be a chance to help someone who is a hard core road bike type to appreciate the vintage stuff, even if it's not a cruiser.
A coworker today asked me if I could find a vintage Italian road bike for him. Here's the details:
~It can be a road bike or touring bike, but it should be a 10 speed, or whatever they put on road bikes back then. It's going to be ridden up hills and for some long distances so a single or three speed won't cut it.
~The rider is tall so the frame should be too. I'm guessing around 63 cm.
~The bike should be reliable and ready to ride.
~Original decals and lugged frames are a plus.
~Regular wear & tear is expected, but no projects please.
~He specifically requested Italian, and I'm not expecting much of a response because of that and the frame size. I would say if there was a cool vintage road bike with a lot of character that wasn't Italian it might be considered, but I don't want to get bombed with a bunch of non-descript Fujis or Schwinns. There's certainly nothing wrong with either of them as far as I'm concerned, but I'm looking for something Italian or really, really special.
Thanks guys.
