Thanks Mike, that really means alot.

I've always attacked building things without fear, obviously until panic bunk. haha No, but really I've just had to go at this entire build with the approach of "I've got nothing to lose." I did end up throwing away some stuff, but I don't miss it, no regrets.

As for having nothing to lose, I've been thinking about my cost of parts that I actually bought specifically for this build. The bike was free. I paid $14 for the steel to build the forks, had some left to do the handlebar mount and still have some left. I had 2 sets of those tires, one set I paid $15 each for, the other about $9 each, so I'll just go on the higher end and say the tires cost me $30. Though I had all the paint already in my collection I'll just add $10 for that (which is way too high). I paid .99 cents for the copper rivets I used on the seat and I paid $3 for the copper straps that I used on my tank and battery tube. Everything else was stuff I got for free. So I can round up and say I build this bike for $60. To me that's pretty cool.

It reminds me of the fast car in town that had been sitting in a barn for 30 years, it came out and stirred memories of all the locals ,some good,some bad...I like it ALOT

I think you hit the rusty nail on the head with this one, it's definitely rat! I love the homebrewed details, and I would trade my rack for yours in a second. Awesome finished product!

It looks old and crusty, but yet at the same time it looks like it would roll smooth and quiet. I think the way you tied in the faux-patina with the accessory colors turned out perfect. Nice job!

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm still waiting to get more local reviews, was going to ride to church tonight (usually ride there on Sunday nights) but it was raining, I really want to get some idea of how it shows in person. The neighbor kids like it, Cody saw half or more of the build, so he saw the gradual growth of it, but the first adult to see it with fresh eyes was my wife and I had to explain to her why it looked "old." I guess I was going for that since a 1976 cantilever bike really isn't a classic, haha.

Oh, and according to the manufacturer sticker I wire brushed off only a few days into the build, tomorrow is the 76er's birthday. Happy 35th birthday, I'll join you in a couple months. For your birthday I got you, well... everything!
