Thanks, Eibmoz28.

Had to finish the chute bag by installing the cool little grommets. First cut a hole where the grommet is to be:

Image

Put on the top part and the bottom part of the grommet. Set it on the bottom boinker plate, line up the top boinker and smack it with a hammer:

ImageImage

Repeat four times. There is the chute and the bag:

Image

There is the chute in the bag presently held together with a bolt. The bag could be half as deep and still work--the chute is really loose in there. I will shrink it soon.

Image

Here is the angle I am going for:

Image

I'm redoing the mount rods and plate, however, as I don't like either. I am going to make more of a wire frame mount that doesn't stand out so much--something like this:

Image

Also, I might make a new chute bag. This one looks big--eh, maybe I'll wait until I reduce the depth and see how it looks. Also, I might jam the entire thing down more under the seat--just have to move the reflector.

You may want to use that extra space in the bag for a launching spring, kinda' like that snake in a can thing kingfish suggested.

That was originally why I made it so deep, but I don't like the looks of it so thick. I have some springs that can be compressed to less than an inch that are 4 inches expanded. If I have to get more spring, I'll make a tube that sticks out the back a bit. However, once I stick the chute more under the seat and get rid of the 1" wide mounting plate that adds to the chute depth, maybe it will look okay. The chute bag is 3-1/2" deep (or might have been 4"--I forget). It could be 2" and the chute would still fit in there. I guess I should place the chute where I want it first and then see how it looks.

If I get one of these type of springs soon enough, that will make things easier since they compress to such a small depth. It is hard to find one the right size and spring rate though. I did find one place that had some good ones, but the minimum order was $40--yikes!

That would be cool. There isn't anyone I know around where I live who is even interested in doing this kind of stuff.

Ha! Hey, Jake, if I move down to work with yooth, you gotta come down and show us how you build a multitude of bikes every week.

I was looking for drag chute stuff and found this photograph:

Image

I'm, thinking "Dude, quite taking pictures and RUN!!!" According to the website, the guy wasn't injured as the car missed him.

Okay, that has nothing to do with bicycles, so how about this:

I was at home tonight with a whole bunch of things to do, so I figured it was a good time to sew a new chute bag--this one being a little smaller size and with more stitching:

Image

It's hard to see the stitching because of the flash, but the thread is red to throw a little color in there and to mimic the red pinstripes on the bike. Here's a closeup but it is still hard to see:

Image

The stitching is in imitation of the stitching on this chute:

Image

I think I might be happy with this one. I have to put in grommets yet.
