Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildThanks guys!
The chainguard kinda scares me! I remember as a kid getting my pants stuck in the crank. And after thinking about it for a little bit it seems that my leg is probably no match for the angle of those cuts, so you could actually call the chainguard the meatgrinder!! It does clear the crank arm, now just gotta see if it will clear my leg ---Mitch aka Grillmaster Mitch.... you know....... the guy that burns the Hot Dogs!

Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildI scrounged up a cool old lamp, not sure if it will be headlamp or taillamp, but Im gonna use it one way or another.
It has a cool fluted lens, that probably wouldnt work too well as a headlamp, Ill either switch it over to clear or red glass. And Ill have to modify it to run some high intensity LED's ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Ratfink1962 on Sun Nov 04, 2012 6:22 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildJust an update...
Some things came up and the project got sidelined, but since things are finally settling down I should be able to get back on it. I did get a replacement rim from LocoJoe, thanks again! and I did manage to get them powdercoated a flat black, I even managed to get both wheels relaced, but still need to true them up. The dream of powdercoating the frame and other parts is not to be... After getting the rims done it turns out to be too expensive, even with a buddy doing the work! So... Going a different route. Using some paint and other stuff to come up with a "different" finish. I would post a pic of my progress, but im not exactly sure of how its gonna look but it should be "different" for sure. Ive been thinking of how Im gonna make the tank, and at first I was leaning towards making a styrofoam plug, then fiberglassing over it, and then dissolve the foam using solvents... but im not a big fan of working with glass, so Im probably gonna end up just making one out of sheetmetal using a buck. I dont have a shrinker so im gonna have to cut and weld the corners, but it shouldnt be too bad. Last edited by Ratfink1962 on Sun Nov 04, 2012 6:23 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildNice work and really good ideas
Is everybody finished building yet?
Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildFYI that light is a 1928/29 Model A Ford cowl light.
Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildHey Dude, this is so weird. When you said maybe some chainguard mods, I had this thought come into my to do exactly what you did. That's scary. They say great minds think alike. I say greater minds put those thoughts into reality. I guess you win.
Great work and kool bike. Lets see more.....
Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first build
Cool deal, thanks for the info... I wasnt sure what it was originally, since I found it in a junk pile.
LOL, its all good! Give it a shot, it really wasnt that hard to pull off. Just some tubing scraps welded in at at angle. Regarding the finish... has anyone ever seen a bike that was finished out with heat? I know it sounds strange, but when the steel is heated up to a certain point it will change colors, kinda like a deep blue color fading into yellow. Well thats what Im planning. Ill post up a few pics later to show what Ive done so far to maybe explain it better. Ive been reading the posts about using salt and vinegar to speed up the rust process, which I may use. But I also wanted to ask if there was anyone that has tried other chemicals, acids, etc. on bare metal to get it to change colors... etc. I read something a while back about a electrolysis process that changes rust to a black oxide. ---Mitch aka Grillmaster Mitch.... you know....... the guy that burns the Hot Dogs!

Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildLooks good like that. You gonna clear it?
Dumpster divin' since 2nd grade.
Re: Lawrenceburg Flyer... my first buildFelt used to make a cruiser completely finished like that, called it raw or something but the frame looked really good like that. I think some other BMX companies used to do it also, think I have a set of DB bars like that somewhere around.
