Murray Cruiser bike makeover.

Murray Cruiser bike makeover. After about three hours of work. Front fender on the rear, I had to shorten it on the bottom, and drill a hole. Installed a springer, the hardest part of the springer is I had to shorten the head tube 1", 1/2" on the bottom, and 1/2" on the top. The front of the bike went down 1 1/2". I had to shorten the kick stand. I flipped the bars, I know,I know, everybody does it. Made a curved seat post. Mounted the reflector from the seat bracket, on the left side fender mounting hole. Gave it a good cleaning, I didn't realize it was so red, I thought it was more maroon. I really like it. A hand made tank might still be in the works, but I will have to see. I rode it tonight after I finished it, it was 10pm here, and really dark, so I just rode up the driveway and back, I like the way it rides. Enjoy Dean

Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.wow! it cleaned up nicely. looking good!
how did you go about shortening the head tube?
yeah, they're fun bikes. i really enjoy riding my Murray around the neighborhood.
Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.I use a die grinder with a thin cut off wheel. I used tape as a guide so I could keep the cut straight.

Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover. With everything else all clean and shiney, the rear sprocket's looking a little brown.
it's all about the bikes, man. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50053
I was going to update my sig line, but I'm not seein' anything worth plagiarizing right now.
Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.Super job!!! I see why you didnt want to mess with the paint. Hummm I would spend alot of time staring at Elvira.
Ok if I hang that one over there, and slide this one over here
maybe one more will fit right here!
Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.Yea I see that. I'll paint it black, or polish it and clear it. I want to paint the reflectors in the pedals flat black too. If a man speaks, and there's no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.BTW, I like the look alot! You've done a great job. May I offer a suggestion? An automotive valvespring will give you more rake, and still be sprung.

Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.I like the Murray, and I like that valve spring idea ^^
Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.Thats a cool idea about the valve spring for the springer.
Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.Goes well with flipped bars appearance-wise. it's all about the bikes, man. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50053

Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.I was thinking about changing the spring. I've just shortened the stock spring before. I cut one coil off both ends. I didn't do it on this one though. If a man speaks, and there's no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

Re: Murray Cruiser bike makeover.I polished the rear sprocket, and the coaster brake arm tonight. I also removed the reflectors from the pedals. If a man speaks, and there's no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?
