Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding. $3.49 at ace. comes in about a 1 foot length. ![]() cut in half ( bought two cause i dont know why) ![]() and wallah! bolt the rear on, and your good. and yes it does work. i rode my bike for a good two miles today and i had no problems at all. just make sure all the bolts fit tight, so theres no wiggle room. and also, you could buy two and use 4 holes, insted of three, but you would need a shorter crank, im making sparks witht eh pedals right now. i hate "slow"

Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.hi i'm new here, i just bought a set of wheels with 14mm axles (for a 3/8 frame) and i couldnt figure out a "cool" way to make them fit without tearing them or the frame up, looks like i found a way, thanks!
Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.Very kool idea!
Hey, what kind of frame is that? My buddy has one just like it that he's trying to ID. Give me a spoke and I'll build a bicycle around it.

Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.Cool idea. I like the look of the brake pads because they have curves and look good on a cantilever frame. I would try an auto repair shop as a source for old brake pads.
That's a squatch!
Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.Great idea ... as far as the brake pad backing plates go ... you should be able to go to any auto repair shop & ask them to give you a set.
They use to turn them in as cores ... but not any more ... now they just wind up in the scrap pile. Hope it helps ... eddielives Just Havin' Fun!
Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.doesnt get much lower than this.

Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.Being a safety and health person I feel the need to put this out there.
BE CAREFULE WHEN GRINDING/CUTTING OLD BRAKE PADS!!!! Alot of the older pads used Asbestos in them. Here is some more info if needed.... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls= ... 59&bih=897 Just a FYI. Jon
Re: lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.^^^ that was one of the thoughts that crossed my mind. i remember changing brakes on our old chevy and seeing that warning on the box.
ive still not succesfully found a shot pair, and im hoping to find some with no pad at all, so i can cut the risk of asbestos. so, is there anything we can do to kinda safeguard against that? like soaking them in something, or spraying them with sealer before they get drilled? im open for options because i dont want anyone to get hurt. i hate "slow"
lowering the rear of a bike, for free with no welding.A respirator is the best way. Its not the cheap ones you get at home depot for a buck. It needs to be NIOSH certified. Also needs to be a HEPA filter.
