so S.S. returned from his field trip to Gaskill's Hop Shop with some fresh looking retro-styled striping...very subtle, just to break it up a little..thanks Gaskill for the touch of paint:

ok, time to finish this build up..I started by installing the rear fender and crank set-up:
Image
Image

then the handlebars:
Image

then the "Barrara Seat":
Image
starting to look like...something...

got the sissy bar mounted and seat attached:
Image

I wrapped a old speedo cable in the orange wrap and installed it next:
Image

and threw ya a little tease on the shifter..still got a little left to do on it:
Image

here's where I'm at right now..next up is to cable this bike up, finish the shifter, and any minor details I may add. I also lie in wait for the chainguard to return from "Jalopy Jim" with some vintage style lettering..More to Come!!

WOW! Coming together nicely. Bar tape gives it the "factory look". Well ,so doesn't the upholstered seat, and I guess the the paint and stripes. Okay, okay...It looks like a factory Fantasy bike. NICE!

Don't forget Double Nickel is just a wee one! You can't go corrupting the youth with junk and beer!

Re: Scooby Snack(update 7-24-11 final assembly pt.2 )

Postby Smoopy's on Sat Jul 23, 2011 11:12 pm

so I finished up assembly last evening with cables, shifter, & chain. I wanted to add a little extra to the shifter so I decided to sew some leather together and see what I came up with:
Image
Image

made a mini shift boot for the shifter:
Image

I also scored these NOS rat traps..dated 1975.. :!:
Image
Image

I couldn't decide on color for the cable casing and since we have 14 color choices at our shop..it made it even more difficult..decided to go with the shiny CHROME casing..I haven't used this on any of my bikes so I figured it was time I did:
Image

cabled up the rear disc...got S.S.stopping:
Image

cabled up the shifter and installed the chain..got S.S. shifting and moving:
Image

shifter looking right at home on S.S.:
Image

and here he is about 99.9% finished..final touch-up and installing the chainguard and we'll call S.S. done..I went ahead and took him out on his maiden voyage..I felt like a Schwinn MAN..I'm pleased on how it turned out and can't wait to introduce him to Scooby..one final update to come and then off to the "finished" section...
