You should change the name to the Dakota Devil Booga.

Ok, I have sprocket envy! Not to mention the tank is the bomb and the front tire is SICK! As for the hood ornament...I want one for my 2001 Dodge Neon, but I don't think it would go over to well parked in front of the church. LOL!

I had the same thoughts, cool hood ornament, good luck explaining it to congregants.

Re: The Dakota Bandit "Aka The Dakota Devil Booga" new seat!

Postby Oneuglybike on Wed May 16, 2012 12:08 pm

My seat showed up today, I am quit pleased with the patina of the leather!! I have no idea what the brand is? Any ideas? :| :!: :?: Image

My ex-girlfreind left this "wallyworld" huffy in my garage, she said I could have it. I don't know if I can do anything with it as far as using parts. Any suggestions? I may see if that fork can be used.

Nice name! Now you need to crop a good photo of that hood ornament and make that your Avatar.

The rear triangles from those bikes are good to use if you want to make a homemade longtail cargo bike.

Re: The Dakota Bandit "Small update" not much

Postby Oneuglybike on Mon May 28, 2012 8:57 pm

Hi All, I haven't made much progress to my own dismay! :? I haven't been able to find my groove or what I want this bike to look like.

If I have spent as much time doing as I have been staring at it, I bet I would be close to being done!

I have been following many of the builds on here and almost feel like a little kid playing with grown ups! You guys got skills!!

Anyway, I have been tinkering and looking at parts and tons of stuff on "evil bay", but today I kind of mocked up some different things until I kind of found a look I am going for! :D

I bobbed the rear fender and cleaned up some odds and ends. I am still torn on painting the frame and wheels :!: :!: I am leaving the tank as is, and I may leave the wheels as is! It's a rat after all!!

This was in a box of headlights I have, I just need to get some battery's for it. I am pretty sure it works, I believe it was on a helmet?

Image

My helper, giving her two cents on another mock up!

Image

I dug this out of junk pile at my Grandmothers ranch, I believe it's a early 50's Monark Silver King. It's been laying there next to a river that has been over its banks many times for at least 30 years that I know of!

I say clear coat it and put air in the tires.

Clear coat? What are you, some sort of hot rodder?

Looking good, looks like your "helper" was saying something when you shot the photo...

Thats just awesome! Even better than a barn find cus you know the history of it. You should incorporate something off the Silver King into your BO bike. It'd be cool if there's a pic of your grandmother on it from 30+ years ago.

Re: The Dakota Bandit some fauxtina.......

Postby Oneuglybike on Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:56 pm

Hey all, well I tried faking some patina on my new "made in china" 24in wheel. I really wanted to run this fat tire, but wanted the rim to somewhat match the rest of the bike. :| So I gave it a shot, I may have to come back and try something else on it.

didn't seem to turn out to bad, although it doesn't really match the front very well. :? But all in all I kind of like it! :)

I have a springer fork coming ( yay for evil bay ) so I hope that will work out for me!

I picked this up at a friends house, his wife was using it as yard decor! It's a Hawthorne skippy!!

Just wanted to show that one off!

Re: The Dakota Bandit ....Starting Over.

Postby Oneuglybike on Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:07 pm

Well, I am still here, just haven't been able to do much with anything! I was drawing a blank! :?
So anyway I decided to start over..........I wasn't going to paint anything, but with all these awesome builds going on I just have to! I also ordered a "Eastwood Mig 135" so once I get that and figure out how to plug it in...........

I hope to be able to add a little fab to my bike so it's not so boring. Just a few pics of the new start!

Decided to rebuild my wheels, starting with the front one now.

I know, it's not real exciting stuff, but I think when I get it all cleaned up and assembled it will look nice!

No, I am kind of thinking of making a wooden tank. Keeping the original as is, even if I use it I won't paint it.

With all the wooden tanks this year, I think there is a homicidal lumberjack bunny on the loose!
