Lay back seat post? Where?

Postby Saverio on Sun Jun 24, 2012 8:28 pm

I've been looking around for a lay back seat post, and saw where a board member was custom making them, but his website states he's not currently fabricating them.
Any idea where I can get one? This is my first crack at doing anything custom, so I'm kind of just getting my feet wet. Will end up going for a board tracker style.
I saw somewhere else on the net that people were using handlebars that were cut, but the only ones I have aren't the right diameter. :(
Any help would be appreciated!

Any local fab shop could easily make one up for you. I got lucky and found mine at an automotive swap meet for $5, I think a shop could weld one up for less than the going rate is on an original.

I have a home made lucky 7 seat post if you need it. It is 7/8" bottom diameter with 5/8" top diameter.

There is a guy local here in Savannah that is making some this same style and asking $40 each. Pirate has them for $25 and it looks like free shipping.

@kingfish yes, and they're speedy! I ordered one yesterday and it's already been sent out via priority mail.

What I did was just cut out a "V" in my seat post, bent it down and welded it. I did grind the welds and cover them with bondo and painted it, but you don't have to.

I ended up buying one of the posts from Pirate Cycles. I'll post a picture tomorrow...if it fits.

@Kingfish - Here is the seatpost I got from Pirate Cycles. It's pretty dang solid! I kind of wish it was just a few inches more back, but I suppose that may mess with the integrity.

Thanks Saverio! Looks pretty sweet.
I was curious how wide it looks from the front and back?
It definitely looks pretty slick from the side.
