Excellent work, Sir Peat of the Bog.

You a machinist, or just play one on the internet? I had a chance to buy a Bridgeport knee-mill pretty cheap but a phase converter is $$$.

Yep, been machining for over 30 years. When I was an engineer, I still machined my own stuff. Now I am the Technology/Automation Shop Manager, and I still machine a lot of my own stuff. It’s good for what ails you. But since I am the manager now, I have the key to the shop and can get in and machine anytime I want to after hours. Also, we have a really good TIG welder. I learned to TIG weld when I was the engineer and no one else knew how to. So I was the engineer/machinist/TIG welder for many of those years. Interestingly enough, at that time, when there was too much to weld and I could not do it all, we’d have a guy come in to weld and he made a lot more money that I did. So I told the place I wanted more money too. They told me to shut up. But I did learn some stuff from the other welder guy, so it all came to good.

I have a chance to get an old Bridgeport in August for very cheap, but that 3 phase converter is several hundreds of dollars. I might get it though since I am looking for another job and my shop availability may disappear if I find one. I'd like to get a small lathe also.
I tried being serious, but it was boring.

Last off-topic post, I promise (well, this time).

I have been looking at woodworking sites, some of those guys have pretty good plans for phase converters made from old 3-phase electric motors if you have access to those. You lose some torque so you have to size properly, but it may be an option... Next mill that comes along is mine...

It's not off topic. I used a milling machine to make a part and we are talking milling machines.

Thanks. You think I would get those things on the bike pretty soon. That seems to be taking longer than making them.

The intense light from the burning sun didn't provide the best lighting conditions, but here are the critters in question:

Thanks char. I need a drag chute yet. Not sure if I will get to it in time though. Might just have to carry it in my pocket and throw it out every once in awhile. :P

Where's the bike?

Don't know. Threw out the chute--I stopped; the bike didn't.

It's amazing how much difference it makes removing that extra metal. They look perfect on the bike now.

Maybe they would look better on your bike. I might have to think about that. )Heh, heh, yeah right. Those spinners aren't going anywhere.(

Nice work on the knock offs. It was cool to see the process and the the original idea morph into the end result. They looked so big on the bike when they were disks. Now that you cut them into knock offs the scale looks perfect.
