Wahooo! An army of *****.

Ignore the cardboard in the post above. I had this cool plan to make a box and have it flip open with the inside made so it flung the chute out. I figure all the old vintage bicycle chutes that were sold had boxes, so that is what I would do. The problem is that I think it just will not look so good. So a bag is in. I got to get out the sewing machine. Someone mentioned a awhile back that a bag was the way to go. They were right...well, unless I change my mind again. Anyway:

Maybe black.............................Maybe shiny silver

I think that would be me. To qoute Samuel Jackson, " Good ###### ######' choice ###### ######". unfortunately, Sam's not very family friendly. Also thanks for the info on the pin vise, I'd really like to aquire one of those, I just don't want to see the price!

Price!? No, you really don't want to know. Think about over $500 for your standard size model.

Well, fiction is a heck of a lot cheaper!

Man, I gotta make a new drag chute mount plate. After contemplating it for several days, the vertical look just doesn't sit well with me:

Image

I'm thinking I need to kick the bottom out to give a little tilt up angle to it:

Then a cable release and a spring powered launcher and a "Remove Before Flight" tag, and I'll be a hip as vintage Hot Wheels!

Speaking of Hot Wheels, check out this real car double loop action from the X-Games:

Now that is whacked!

That life size Hot Wheel loop is unreal.

Here is a better video of it with different angles and such.

Ah, the old reverso-chango, eh? I might try that. Or maybe just having the short ones on the top and the longs ones on the bottom would give me the angle I desire whilst using the plate I already have.

Well, I hit the fabric store and came home with a black denim-type of material and some silvery type of material. Now I have to get to sewing. I'm thinking I'll probably go with the silvery material.

Ha! Bedazzled. It's a funny word.

Anyway, so far all I have is a paper chute bag--hoping to transfer that into cloth at some point!

Thanks, Joker-n-Jack.

Well, I went to the Chinese carry-out, and they wouldn't give me a container without me buying some food and all they had today was cats, so it was back to making my own chute bag. First I cut out the material:

Image

Sewed it up. Here is is inside-out. I reinforced the corners where the flaps meet with some hand sewing:

Image

Here it is not inside-out:

Image

The bag is actually too big for the chute. It is 5"x5"x3-1/2". I didn't want it any smaller because I thought it would look goofy, so I will fill up some of the depth with a piece of about 1" thick wood. Here I am (below) with my practice shot at grommet smashing. I got the masher tool and 12 grommets for under $4.50 at JoAnn Fabric.

Image

That is all the further I got...

Here's a bike built for a past build-off by bmxerpete that I used as an inspiration for a chute bag. I noticed his chute was at an angle also, and that is the look I am going with. Note the really cool seat shape on that bike too. Also, JoKeR63 suggested I sew up a chute bag to begin with instead of my first idea of a box.

Image

I don't really like the look of this (below) so I am trashing it probably and starting over. I think it would look better using 1/4" diameter support rods instead of the 1/2" I used.
