Old Tommy's arm finally healed up and his Dad helped him put the finishing touches on his new race rig. They managed to get it all set up and ready to go for his first official race at Rabbit Run....a local area track here in North Texas.

Tommy was pretty nervous the day of the race, but he knew that the ride that he and his Dad had built was solid and he felt good about his odds despite the huge turnout of racers that day. Tommy battled his way through the masses of kids on bikes all gunning for first place and managed to take a second place win in the finals. He would have been first if it had not been for this big blonde headed kid named Stuart that NOBODY could pass. Somebody said that kid went on to make it big one day.

Tommy's Dad was proud of him and met him at the finish line to help celebrate his first race. The memories that were created that Summer would last forever and Tommy and his Dad would never forget the fun they had building that Schwinn together.

Tommy went on to race for several more years and eventually discovered girls and cars. The old Schwinn hung in the rafters for decades and every time Tommy saw it hanging there, it brought a smile to his face remembering those days of fun back in 74.
