Big Bamboo?

Has anyone ever built a bamboo bike? I see a few sites where they are being manufactured but anyone can buy one... Any clues on how to make one?
I saw that one manufacturer uses (not kidding) hemp to make the bottom bracket, seat tube connectors and the head set connectors. I'd like to try this but don't have a clue except from the manufacturers website..."we use smoke treated bamboo"

Any thoughts?
