Besides getting the Elgin Oriole I traded ( again no bike stuff, antique/vintage toys )my buddy Herb for the following stuff. A 1968 schwinn deluxe typhoon 3 speed in nice condition, the chrome fenders and s-7 wheels are in great condition. I need another Schwinn canti framed bike like a hole in the head. I guess I justify it by fact I traded for it. I got a neat bike for some toys that I had appreciated for 20+ years. Needs right seat and chainring is wrong, ( I thought, but Wildcat informed me it may be correct, thanks) so I wonder how frankensteined it is, but it’s mine now. I also got a 1960 ish Huffy Tank bike,missing front light, and looks like wrong chainguard. Plus someone put a schwinn marked springer on it? Always loved the tank graphics on these. Rest looks original. Lastly I got 2 headlights, the first one looks like 1890’s? I think it’s an oil lamp? It’s missing a glass jeweled reflector on one side . It also has mounting bracket which is usually missing. The last headlight is a 1950’s Delta rocket ray headlight in MINT condition ( please don’t tell me they ever repoped these) cuz there is not on scratch on this headlight and it’s heavy. Looks and feels real, condition is unbelievable. I guess I got one last thing a shell automotive license topper I may use on a bike build

Cleaned the typhoon up today alittle and put a different cruiser seat on it to ride. Hate original schwinn seats for riding. I did discover that the seat that was on it appears to be the original one, it was red underneath, but had faded a dirty brown color, I thought some had replacements d with a faded coppertone seat. The top tube had wear spots down to the undercoat, they’re gone now. Accomplished by using red permanent sharpie pen and rubbing into paint with finger. It works on all translucent colors, blue, green and red. If your good at it no one will know you did anything. Sorry I don’t have before pic. I also tried to put balloon tires on Huffy but sadly won’t fit with fenders. Thought about taking fenders off, but think I’ll leave on and run smaller tires. May try 1.95’s.

Here’s pics of seat from Typhoon and I started playing around with Huffy. It’s crazy how faded seat is, you’d think rest of bike would be in worse shape if it’s the original. The white shows little wear. Balloons won’t fit Huffy with fenders, so took them off. If I keep this way I’ll put rack back on. It was attached to fender so need to take braces off another rack to install again. I still haven’t cleaned either bike bikes just wiped them off.

As I understand, Deluxe Typhoons should have a chrome fork crown cap. Any S-7 cap will fit if you want to make it 100%.

I'd wager any of us Schwinn geeks have more than a few chrome fork caps lying around.

I thought that when I first saw bike also, but I did search of images of typhoon deluxe and have seen bikes advertised as original, look original and have no fork crown? But come to think about it never paid attention to catalog page. Usually there is some indication if crown was present at some point, there is none. So I’ll look more, but I’m leaning toward this bike never had one. I have a few if needed, thanks for input.

Thanks Matti, had those tires thought they might look good on this. Almost bagged idea when didn’t fit fenders. Glad I didn’t. Fenders on this bike are wimpy looking, didn’t like look, but still have some purist in me, so fought urge to remove them a bit.
