Recently threw on a set of war era wheels onto a new build. Rims are 28'' x 1-1/2'' I know they're standard 700c size but I don't really wanna put a modern looking road tire on said bike. I was looking at the "Schwalbe Century" for more "old school style" options. are there any others out there? The Century seems to be discontinued though.

Would have to come in something at 35c in width. Also these rims are super wide, so putting on a 25c tire or something might not work. I have some tires but nothing really fitting of the bike, looks wise, aside from the tires already on it from the 30s-40s. Which are surprisingly ridable still.

First off, 28x1-1/2 are NOT 700C. Bead diameter on 700c is 622 mm. Old school 28" is larger. I think around 634?
Schwalbe makes Delta Cruiser tires in the right size that come in black or ivory, but the tread pattern is fairly modern (I have them on my Mead Ranger running 28"). There are some European and Indian tire manufacturers that make other 28" offerings, but you'll have to check eBay or Dutch bike sites (their "fiets" also sometimes run 28").

The tires are also marked "F.13" which is a Canadian thing. I was going off Sheldon Brown's site by that and the F.13 version (which is 622) of the 28'' x 1 1/2'' tires is the same size, going by Sheldon's chart.

Haha I loved the Supercycle, was hoping YOU had the answer to strange Canadian sizing.

The CCM forum folk say Duro has an option, but I couldn't find any in a quick online search.

Standard Dunlop 26 on the left, Duro 28 on the right. @ingola is a CCM and old Raleigh builder, he can get the old Canadian sizes too, but they aren't going to be cheap

I had a 700c x 32c tire among some road tires. I popped that on in the mean time. I got a bit more clearance as well. Honestly 32c might be the best size for it. I tried a 700c x 23c tire I had for giggles and the tire was lost inside the rim.

so 29ers roll on 700c/622mm rims. I have a set of 28er wheels. A first run Schwalbe Marathon Cross(wish they still made that tread) 700c/622x42c. They read 622x42c or 28x 1.25. I think i got them like 2008-10. I built I think what is called a super sport now. Hi performance hybrid. I dont think any manufacterer was making them back when i put that bike together. I had to run 29er RockShox Recon Silver, cus 27.5 hadn't hit the market yet. If you run some 27.5 x 2.25 they are the same height. I remeber when I went to get spokes from LBS they were like " dude those are MTB hubs and Road bike rims" Yep, can you go get me some spokes? Now thats common CX/Gravel set ups.
OP needs to measure the rims to find tires 700c/622mm or 635. Givin the age those rims must be 633mm
Do they even make 633mm rims any more? Or tires for that matter. 635 is old school 60s-70s road wheels?
I think it is pretty common practice when building an old 60-70s 27-28 wheels to swap them for more modern 700c/622mm rims. Plus arnt those rims steel? I dont think i have ever seen a 27/28 633 in aluminium
Youre best off followig the ISO number which is in mm's

Also are 27.5 the same as 650B which is ISO 584mm and 26ers ISO 559mm and 650A are ISO 590mm

I've had lots of luck with Dutch tires where are you in Canada. I have lots of tires off gazelles witch fit in most Canadian 28 tire bikes

I would recommend just browsing eBay, even if not for a purchase but just to get ideas and prices. One can set search criteria to filter much of the wrong items and sizes; and sort by cheapest listed first.
Some volume sellers sometimes have great deals on close-out items.
For an older looking bicycle, one might be interested in colors or contrasting sidewalls; and some may get used to the looks of plain black.
Schwalbe and Century tires are very nice, but there may be cheaper alternatives.

One way to check the size of a rim, is to use the tire method; if a 32–622 tire fits, then a 35–622 would likely also fit; and one might conclude that the rim is 622 M&M’s?
