Well you inspired me to blow it all apart. Going to try the pivot set vertically using same pivot parts rotated to vertical. Need a few longer grade 8 bolts, will drill a few holes and do a little grinding to generate some sparks.View attachment 196742View attachment 196743

I rotated the pivot assembly, drilled four holes and sourced some longer grade 8 bolts and some spacers. As it sits now. I need to do some grinding to get the fork to link up due to some extra metal on one side. Changed the fork mounting bolts to grade 8 as well. I also relocated the axle so I also sourced a couple of longer eyebolts.

Could you build the inverted version of what I tried last year on Cooked goose to create a 90° head tube angle?? The rules specify no welding or extensive modifications on the frame, but says nothing about creating something that bolts onto the frame, even if said piece IS welded together. I hyper linked the relevant post, just click the blued letters
 
I went through the motions required to bring the steering pivot up to a more vertical position. That required some new holes and cutting off one side of the fork mounting angle piece, sparks were made.
I got it all together only to find that to use the handlebars to steer I would have reverse steering and that then required some kind of connection.
So I think the next trial and error engineering requires mounting some bars to basket or using the basket handle to steer.

At the present I have the basket fastened to the bars. So it would ride but with the steering lean…basket bars next up.

Well I played around with this a little more. I mocked up a set of bars attached to basket handle. I removed the bike stem and bars, then realized the fork needs to be stabilize. So with some material on hand I mocked up a brace idea, it will need to be heavier gage material. I also may want to take the headset bearing out and lock it up mechanically to remove the steering option there.

Looks like you're on the right path. Good thinking to maybe take that bearing out and go solid

In my head I was wondering if a straight leg fork running backwards down to that mount would give you enough negative trail. Combine that with the pivot being at the bottom now and you might be there

I switched out the forks again and removed the bearings to lock up the steering action. Also added a couple 12 ga x 1” stabilizer bars. With them in place I need to trim the threaded ends.

Contemplating handlebars and placement.
 
Need to take things apart again. I need to connect the pivot bracket to the axle to hopefully stabilize the basket to pivot bracket interaction. Too much flex at present. Think I just need to enlarge a couple of holes to accept two more eyebolts.
 
OK, blew it apart again…I enlarged the the pivot angle holes to 3:8” to accept the Eyebolts from axle housing.

Now to pickup the tool mess on floor and give it a another garage stability test.

Good progress.
I may be wrong, but from what I have seen from front cargo trikes around the world, I believe your pivoting axle may work better if it is perpindicular to the ground. It just seems like it might bind up a bit at its current laid back angle.

Agreed vertical pivot axis would be great. Working with what I have, not wanting to cut up basket and dealing with the geometry of the parts involved. Stability is better now than it’s been. Still another experiment or two to come. Need to service the rear hub and bottom bracket.
Rules say rideable, no specific details on how rideable they have to be.

Can reversing the fork give you more of a vertical pivot?

I like the stance with the stem reversed like that. It seems more 'normal' ? How is the steering, improved?
