‘67 Stingray, I guess

So, I can’t get rid of this thing.

Can’t trade it, can’t sell it..... I’m not to the point of giving it away!!!!! But close!!!

Here’s the start: I bought this dorky frame, jacked up fork and a nice size box FILLED with Schwinn and Wald muscle bike parts. -Extremely cheap compared to the prices you see on eBay.

I’m looking to do a “traditional-esce” coppertone stingray.

Due to the crazy prices on parts, I will do my best to keep it as close to the ‘67 look as possible. Parts availability and price may impact the look, but the spirit (and serial number) of vintage stingray will definitely be there!!!

I'm not up to speed. Is this a 20" wheel bike? Is it a Schwinn frame - if so, do you need a badge?

Here she is stripped, degreased and ready for primer.

For $25, I sent it out for a burn and blast. The paint on this beast was about 1/4” thick and I didn’t want to wrestle this thing for hours on end.

Looks darn clean!!!! I am feeling a little coarseness due to the blast. I’m going to lay on some primer. If the primer doesn’t cover the coarseness, I’ll hit it with a wire wheel to try to smooth it out.

Thanks Al. Yep, it’s a 20” 1967 schwinn stingray.

I actually have a badge, although it’s a little worn. Right now, if I can find a nicer badge on the cheap, I’ll get it, if not I’ll spiffy up the one I have.

There goes 3/4 of a can of primer!!!!

I was actually surprised how much it used to thoroughly cover.

I know schwinn used some special silver primer to make their paint pop.... I’m just going to use white.

I am going to let this cure for a day, sand, then spray the rest of the can on there to try to blur any imperfections in the metal.

That’s definitely a valve stem cap!
