Hmmmm, this is completely rad, I mean rat, I mean....WOW! And...I'd like a peek at the art on the wall / fence behind....So after painting sanding and repeating I finally got it ready. I even assembled it and took it to cyclefest. Unfortunately, it caught quite a nasty gash on the top tube. So I cut it off with a razorblade and saw this as an opportunity to learn more about painting flames. So i sanded, taped, and painted some more. Then I started wet sanding to reveal the layers underneath. I think Im starting to really like this dimensional flame paint job.
I even blended the razorblade slices in seamlessly with the flame.
Not bad for my first, second, third, and forth tries at painting flames
Well I do have some art around that I could let you peek at, but those are just mirrors or picture frames that have the backside of the glass sprayed with mirror paint on the fenceHmmmm, this is completely rad, I mean rat, I mean....WOW! I still have a bit more sanding and I think I have an idea for more painted flames. One of my favorite things about this bike is its ability to stand up straight and sturdy while i work on it. Sure would be nice if every bike could do that
Thanks, just my opinion, but you may want to step back and not add more flames. Too much and you start losing any recognizable flame pattern and it just becomes a cool psychedelic piece of art. Nothing wrong with that either, it just depends on what vibe you are shooting for.

I just noticed the "smoke" affect! Looks great! What type of paint are you using, and I assume you have a compressor / air brush?Chameleon might be appropriate. But I think I finally figured out through much experimentation exactly how I want my flames.

Good advice. I started to lose the flame pattern all together. Instead of adding new flames i sanded and went over the top of old flames. This bike feels like glass now with all the sanding ive done. Lol
No compressor, no airbrush. Just a little one shot paint and a couple rattle cans. Thank you though, the airbrush comment was flattering

Me too usually, i was just experimenting with the one shot for a base and loved the effect
Never tried the "one shot"....can you tell me the brand of paint / technique used? I have a frame I am going to be using for the winter Klunker /bmx/ mtb build off and want to do a unique paint job on the bike...
In the end I went for the trippy psychedelic effect. Lol. You had great advice, but I was experimenting with the paint effects and I learned a lot. Like not to tell my wife out of frustration that she can paint the stays however she wants and that I dont care. I came back to see that everything got sanded and painted. Then I did the same. In the end the paint was a total collaboration and I like it. I will use what Ive learned from the flame painting on other builds in the future so it wasnt a total waste of time or paint.
I decided to go with a candy blue paint for the forks instead of the brushed metal because it would have clashed with the chrome ape hangers
And did the rims and neck to match
The seat was recovered by my wife, Em, of Golz UpCycle
