My dad used to skin his wings with either tissue paper or rice paper (for the ultralights), or vinyl for the motorized ones.

Occasionally, he would paint over the paper to strengthen it, it was some tedious work, but it kept him ‘sane’, ya know? [emoji1787]

I use bulsa for display models. Paper works better and is faster to apply but paper models are so fragile that they can’t be handled very much.

From now on it’s slow going. The balsa skin needs to be put in boiling water and wrapped on a curved surface, then removed and glued to the frame. It has to be glued to the top, dried, then bent to fit and glue the bottom. View attachment 143481
I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT TECHNIQUE. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT.

Second soaking in boiling water. This is the first bend in the bulsa. The bulsa is pressed next to the coffee cup by the white juice container.

:21: I know the feeling I have 48 years worth of model cars.

not to mention 53 years of Hot Wheels and 51 years worth of Johnny lightning.:bigboss:

60 years of accumulated Automobiles and speed parts. :13::)
Let's not forget
27 years of the accumulated bicycles, and bicycle parts.

Just like the Energizer Bunny; this list could go on and on. ......

Bondo - movie staring John Wayne

An body repair man attempts to fix the Escort of a homesteader's wife and her son to get it back to safe operation after her cowardly husband deserts her and the car due to dents and rust. When she refuses to drive it, the bodyman stays on to fix the car and, over time, forms a strong bond with both her and her son.

I would like to do this. I just had a total knee replacement and don’t feel like doing much yet, unless you count sleeping, whining and hobbling around for a few minutes. I’m not up to model building yet and by the time I do it will be late in this build off. I have a cedar chest with a lot of models in there. In the next few days I will look to see what I have. I know I don’t have a Weirdo model so I would have to order one. I’m hoping I can drive by December 10th. I’ll have to use what paint I have. If this thread is still up I‘ll post what I get done. I might feel up to to start on a model I have next week. I just had x-rays and everything is looking good. Since it’s almost Halloween I’m posting a picture of Joe and Oskar, my left knee scars.

He's building a model. Under some pretty difficult conditions. And waiting on delivery of a weirdo. Have you been following the thread?

The weirdo model came. It’s still in the box. Rat fink has been stuck for seven days at our regional distribution center. I also ordered valve covers and a blower for the weirdo model but I don’t know when they will arrive. The plan is for Rommel’s Rod to have a drag motor with Rat Fink in it. The Rod will be towing the Messerschmidt.

One of the skeletons for Rommel’s Rod was broken. I tried several glues, even marine epoxy, but nothing held. I finally took a cut off straight pin, tied it to the back with fine sewing thread and marine glued the bottom half. After it dried I fixed the top half of the skeleton with thread and glue.
