I have been Enjoying the creativity and skills on this site for a long time. Meanwhile working my regular job and flipping bikes for extra income. Last fall I found a beat up bike frame at the scrap yard. It is a Non ferus yard so they don't buy steel. My bike was under a big metal tub full of steel. The tub itself was marked 407lbs. I had seen the the fender and grip along with another bike sticking out. They lifted the tub off for me and let me have both bikes for free. The wheels were a total loss as well as the seat. I salvaged the grips and th frame.

After it sat in my basement for quite a while I found a set of wheels with a three speed and a coster brake. I put some big fat hookworm tires on. I had to widen the back of the bike to accomidate the tire. I did that with a three inch pipe and a mini sledge then drew the drop outs back with a 3/8 threaded rod and nuts and washers. Documentation with photos, no I forgot. as well as welding on four more inches to the handle bars (from a different bike). Its closing in on ridable I have a shifter and new positron cable to put on. I want to add a front brake and a springer fork soon. I be able to comute to softball instyle Here are some pictures so far.

That bike has some serious MOJO, Thanks for rescuing it from it's demise. I go to my local scrap yards all of the time in search of bikes. They always tell me "you should of been here yesterday cause we had some of those really old ones" I can't help but think of how many Chicago Schwinns meet thier demise to the crusher every day :( What a shame. I love your ride though.

Acouple weeks ago I was up in North Saint Louis removing a sign thats headed for the porcelain sign museum. While we were there a constant stream of pick-ups drove by to the scrap yards. We wondered about all the cool and historical signs and bikes that end up in the shredder. Even at $20 a ton they keep on scrapping.

no paint sorry noooope. the tires are great i love those on schwinns like that. as for the fork keep it simple maybe a set of truss rods. do you by chance still have the old bars those would be great for a trophy. nice work

I used a couple chunks of those bars to extend the bars that are on this bike. I scraped the wadded up part. Now I wish I hadn't. The banged up rear fender from this bike is on my currrent build "Grocery Hauler".

Love the paint, and matching grips...... forks maybe heavier ones

Nice ride!
