Another build off season comes to an end. Its been a few years since I've been involved in a build off and, honestly, I wasn't planning on competing this year. One day I had a funky idea for a bike using up some old parts, lo and behold it was build off season so here we go! It's not crazy. It's not over the top. But its absolutely everything I intended for it to be and maybe the most realistically ride-able bike in the build off. I built this bike like I build my cars, a little rusty and ratty with a bad@$$ set of wheels and modern running gear.

Without further ado, meet ChromeDoubt.

Specs:

Frame
  • Generic (and admittedly, modern) steel fixie frame
Fork
  • 700c steel fixie fork
Rolling Gear
  • Bontrager Racelite wheelset
  • Duro Ride Your Cause tires
Running Gear
  • Campagnolo Centaur Crankset
  • Campagnolo Centaur Brakes
  • Campagnolo Centaur Chain
  • Campagnolo pedals, cages, and straps

Cockpit
  • 80s Huffy mountain bike bars
  • Icon 1" threaded quill stem

Leatherwork
  • Brooks B72 saddle
  • Handmade leather grips
Finish
  • Solid rust on all steel parts using my top secret flash rusting process; I acheived this finish on the frame and fork in only a couple hours.
  • Shiny aluminum tidbits for contrast
  • Lightest bike in the build off? 21 lb 6 oz
Results!

Dagnabit doerman, now I have to look up Velikovsky on the internet.
This should be the lightest bike in the build-off. Most of our bikes are campy. Yours actually is Campy.

A fast , light and rust rat i didn't know they could exist . Nice parts on this fixie rat look like it will be a fun & functional ride
