Mine looks almost exactly like that bike and I was told by someone on the CABE that mine was a '35 vs a '36 - based on the style of truss rod brace it had (at the crown of the fork). Yours is different than mine, so maybe yours is a '36. I would guess that '35 to '36 is close though. Love that bike!

Mine also has NO chainguard and the fender isn't cut for one the way yours looks.
 
Great buy and it looks like your son is wondering why there is an old bike sitting in the house.
 
Here is my '34 Flyer. Mine is an ever evolving rat. It gets parts changed out and replaced on a regular basis.
